Assistant Mill Chemist

Position: Assistant Mill Chemist Reports to: Mill Chemist Salary Range: 65k -75k DOE plus monthly and quarterly incentive pay FLSA: Salaried Exempt The primary objectives are to assist Mill Chemist by providing professional and technical expertise to improve the efficiency of our operational systems, improve the quality of our products, and find more cost-effective ways to meet these goals while reducing cost. Job Description Monitor chemical dosing, manage chemical inventory, and oversee lab equipment Monitor the specifications of the paper product and be a responsible member of the chemical and quality department Assess and make a judgment of any problems that may arise chemically within the mill Promote all areas of safety and quality Play a crucial part for the manufacturing team Report and discuss all matters that may be of concern to the Mill Chemist Act as a Mill Chemist in their absence Will be on call as per schedule Requirements BS in Chemical Engineering or Paper Sciences Must have excellent communication skills Previous manufacturing skill is a plus Basic computer skills Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form; ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations Registrations May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License and/or other appropriate certification to work in certain areas or on certain equipment Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; wet and/or humid conditions; occasional exposure to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration.
