The primary function of a Summit Point Paramedic/Firefighter is to provide Basic Life Support care to those in need at our facility within the guidelines set forth by the State of West Virginia Office of EMS. The paramedic/Firefighter should be able to operate and maintain ambulance and equipment and maintain skill sets, and certifications as required. Paramedic/Firefighters must protect the Summit Point Training Facility property which includes high speed racetracks, buildings, wooded areas, explosive ranges and other structures and areas. The position participates in fire suppression, vehicle extrication/stabilization, and standby for the explosives range. The ideal candidate will be responsible for: Perform daily check offs of equipment, ambulance, and fire truck to ensure they are in working order to respond to emergencies. Perform triage and a variety of emergency medical treatments as an BLS provider as well as provide continuing care while enroute to the hospital. Follow West Virginia State Office of EMS protocols which include both invasive and non-invasive medical treatments. Skills/Therapies are included but not limited to assessment and evaluation of the ill and injured, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation, administration of medications, applications of dressings and bandages, advanced airways management, and immobilizations. Operate an ambulance and fire apparatus in a safe manner driving both emergency and non-emergency both on public roadways and motorsports tracks. Work alongside and coordinate patient care with other members of the emergency services team to ensure all work safely together and for the best outcome of the patient. Employ safe lifting and moving techniques. Act as a mentor/preceptor for new hire EMTs, Paramedics and Firefighters. Communicate professionally and effectively with both clients, coworkers, and over the radio channels. Complete run sheets and other required documentation in their entirety in a clear and through manner. Operate firefighting equipment such as pumps, extinguishers, and extrication tools in a safe and effective manner. Coordinate with EMS crew on safe extrication and rescue efforts. Coordinate landing zones when needed for emergency evacuations. Performed related duties as assigned. Maintain all required certifications for the Paramedic/Firefighter position. Requirements Job Requirements and Qualifications Required National Registry Paramedic or WV Paramedic Certification WV EMS Protocols; Required to be complete within 60 days of hire unless already completed West Virginia Firefighter 1 & 2 or equivalent such as Pro Board or IFSAC certifications in Firefighter 1 & 2 from another jurisdiction. Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) BLS CPR certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) International Training Life support (ITLS)/ Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers (PEPP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Hazmat Awareness; Required to obtain within 60 days of hire unless takes in the last two years MCI 1 & 2; Required to obtain 6 hours within 60 days of hire unless already competedNIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.
Must have basic computer skills. Must be able to work weekends. High school diploma or equivalent Valid Driver’s License Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening Preferred 1 year of active 911 experience in both Paramedic and Firefighter positions is desired. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods in both training and operational environments. Duties routinely involve mobility throughout a large campus setting, including classrooms, driving tracks, tactical ranges, training structures, garages, paddock areas, and outdoor event spaces. Employees may be exposed to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, smoke, fuel vapors, hazardous materials, toxic chemicals, dust, fumes, loud noises, firearms and ammunition, moving vehicles, electrical and mechanical hazards, explosives simulation, and varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow. Essential physical activities include walking, running, standing for prolonged periods, climbing stairs and ladders, crawling, kneeling, squatting, bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, dragging, lifting, and carrying equipment or patients in excess of 150 pounds with assistance when necessary. Work may require operating emergency vehicles and medical equipment, lifting above shoulder level, rapid response across uneven terrain, and use of both hands and legs in emergency and training scenarios. Employees must possess the ability to read, hear, communicate effectively, exercise sound judgment, and make critical decisions under pressure in fast-paced or high-risk environments. High-stress situations involving medical emergencies, training exercises, live-fire environments, motorsports activities, or security-related incidents may be encountered. Work Conditions Work is performed in a dynamic environment that supports government, law enforcement, military, emergency response, and motorsports operations. Duties are conducted both indoors and outdoors across a multi-use training and event facility. Employees may work in classrooms, medical response areas, training venues, race facilities, garages, ranges, road courses, off-road environments, and remote areas of the property. Schedules may include rotating schedules, extended hours, overtime, weekdays, weekends, holidays, and support during special events or emergency situations. Employees should expect frequent exposure to loud environments, emergency response activity, vehicle traffic, live training exercises, and rapidly changing operational demands. Work may require responding during adverse weather conditions and maintaining readiness during periods of increased operational tempo.
