Position Summary:

Firefighter/Paramedic general job functions include responding to and resolving emergency and non-emergency fire, rescue, medical, hazardous materials and related incidents.

Essential Functions:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following:

• Responds to and resolves emergency and non-emergency fire, rescue, emergency medical, hazardous material and other related incidents.
• Directs fire streams and other extinguishing agents and processes in a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations, occurrences and occupancies including structures, facilities, vehicles, agricultural settings, accident scenes, spills and other related incidents.
• Rescues and extricates victims from hazardous environments or entrapment from structures, vehicles, trains, monorails, aircraft, watercraft and other locations.
• Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed. Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical protocols as set forth by the Medical Director.
• Provides basic and advanced life support medical treatment as required. Monitors and records patient's vital signs and information.
• Completes reports and other required documents.
• Communicates with on-line medical direction via radio and/or telephone.
• Provides a variety of non-emergency public relations, public services and assistance as required.
• Determines and applies rescue and emergency medical care, techniques and practices to provide immediate medical aid to the ill and injured.
• Provides and attends classroom and practical emergency services training and education.
• Works as a team member and/or individually in carrying out a variety of assignments in emergency services situations.
• Maintains knowledge of Department rules, regulations, policies, procedures and the labor contract. Maintains issued clothing and equipment.
• Conducts public education programs as assigned.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED acceptable to the District. An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.

Language Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess excellent written and oral communications skills. Multilingual skills are desirable.

Mathematical Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess a basic knowledge of mathematical concepts and calculations.

Reasoning Ability:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess an ability to think and reason critically. Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Maintain current State of Florida Paramedic License, Fire Fighting Minimum Standards, Maintain AHA ACLS and BLS Certifications. Obtain and maintain endorsement by the department's Medical Director. Must possess a valid Florida Driver License and maintain insurability under the District's commercial vehicle coverage.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Most essential functions require muscular strength and endurance, aerobic capacity, flexibility and equilibrium. Paramedics shall maintain sufficient physical ability to perform essential functions.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The Firefighter Paramedic, at times, must be exposed to high hazard situations while performing at emergency scenes. Extreme weather conditions are also encountered during the performance of their duties, and exposure to contagious diseases does occur. Work involves the application of numerous emergency medical and life saving skills and instruction techniques.

Work environment may involve stressful conditions having a direct effect on life safety.

Appearance Policy:

It is recognized that the District may make and enforce rules relating to personal appearance. Such rules may be in writing. Tattoos located on the face, head, neck or hands shall be prohibited. Visible tattoos elsewhere on the body shall be permitted, however, they shall not contain offensive language, symbols, or nudity.

Background Requirements:

Offers of employment are contingent on a successful background screening, physical examination and a public record verification. Screenings and record verifications may include but are not limited to: criminal records, MVR check, reference verification and employment disciplinary history.

CFTOD is hiring Paramedics for our EMS team. Please see below for assessment details and follow instructions to be fully considered. There is not an established closing date at this time. Closing date will be determined at a later date based on application volume.

Initial Process:

• 1. Submit online application with all documents that show you meet minimum requirements to Tip: When submitting your online application, combine as many document copies into one PDF file as possible. Only six separate attachments are allowed to be attached with your application.
• 2. Interested candidates are required to complete the FireTEAM Written Exam (online personality/psychological test is required) via National Testing Network (NTN) as soon as possible. Scores from January 2025 and onward are valid. Any scores prior to January 2025 will not be accepted.
• 3. Only candidates who pass the above required steps and are assessed by the Fire Department panel will be contacted for next steps.

Note: Once NTN testing & requirements have been completed, interested candidates should wait to be contacted further. Once NTN results are compiled, CFTOD will reach out to those selected on an "invite only" basis for the next phase of the hiring process.
