Job Title: Material Coordinator / Manufacturing Expeditor Job Description

This role supports a high-volume fabrication and manufacturing operation by ensuring the production floor has the materials, tools, and components required to meet production schedules. The Material Coordinator / Manufacturing Expeditor manages a large volume of active work orders, monitors production progress, resolves material shortages, and coordinates closely with production, materials management, purchasing, and inventory teams. This position combines office-based planning and systems work with hands-on support on the manufacturing floor and offers the opportunity to take ownership of a critical function that directly impacts overall manufacturing efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the movement, staging, and availability of materials, tools, and components required to support production schedules.

• Track and monitor approximately 1,200 active work orders to ensure timely completion and adherence to production timelines.

• Investigate and resolve material shortages, missing components, and rework issues to minimize production delays.

• Collaborate closely with Purchasing and Materials Management teams to order, receive, and replenish required parts and materials.

• Generate and analyze weekly missing components reports to identify production gaps, bottlenecks, and recurring issues.

• Maintain accurate work order status and inventory records within ERP/MRP systems to support production planning and reporting.

• Support inventory reconciliation efforts and actively participate in cycle count activities to improve inventory accuracy.

• Operate sit-down forklifts to transport materials safely and efficiently throughout the facility as needed.

• Drive process improvements focused on reducing material shortages, improving workflow efficiency, and enhancing inventory control.

• Take ownership of the expediting function by establishing best practices for material control, work order management, and production support.

• Communicate effectively with production supervisors, assemblers, inventory personnel, purchasers, warehouse staff, and leadership to align priorities and resolve issues.

• Monitor work order status on an ongoing basis, proactively identify risks to schedule adherence, and implement corrective actions.

• Verify inventory levels on the production floor and in the warehouse, and ensure materials are correctly located and ready for use.

• Support material accuracy initiatives by identifying discrepancies, investigating root causes, and helping implement corrective measures.

Essential Skills

• Previous experience as a Manufacturing Expeditor, Production Coordinator, Material Planner, Production Control Specialist, or in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.

• Experience working in fabrication, metal manufacturing, or industrial production environments.

• Strong experience utilizing ERP, MRP, or similar manufacturing systems for work order and inventory management.

• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including data tracking, reporting, and analysis.

• Proven experience managing large volumes of work orders and prioritizing competing production demands.

• Knowledge of inventory control, materials management, and production scheduling processes.

• Experience supporting cycle counts and inventory reconciliation activities.

• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with production, purchasing, warehouse, and leadership teams.

• Valid experience operating a sit-down forklift in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Demonstrated problem-solving and process improvement skills, including the ability to identify root causes of material shortages and develop corrective actions.

• Comfort working with both office-based systems and hands-on activities on the manufacturing floor.

• Ability to interpret and work with work orders, bills of materials, and production schedules.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, recordkeeping, and inventory tracking.

• Capability to work frequent overtime, including most Saturdays, to support production demands and customer deadlines.

• Ability to build effective working relationships across production, materials management, purchasing, inventory, and warehouse functions.

Work Environment

The role is based in a fast-paced fabrication and manufacturing environment that supports a high-volume production operation. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with frequent overtime and most Saturdays required to meet production demands and customer deadlines. The position involves a blend of office-based administrative work and hands-on support on the manufacturing floor, including regular interaction with production supervisors, assemblers, inventory personnel, purchasers, and warehouse staff. You will use ERP/MRP systems extensively, along with Microsoft Excel, to manage work orders, track materials, and coordinate production activities. The role requires frequent walking throughout the production facility and warehouse to verify inventory, locate materials, and support manufacturing operations. Participation in inventory reconciliation efforts, cycle counts, and material accuracy initiatives is a regular part of the job. Sit-down forklift operation is required to move materials safely and efficiently in support of production activities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $49920.00 - $58240.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
