Law Enforcement, public safety, security and/or military background required. Training in de-escalation skills and passive restraint. Understanding of NIMS and Crisis Management Response. Applicant must have successfully completed Act 120 basic training as required by the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission under Pa. C.S. Ch Extensive knowledge/experience in Pennsylvania School Attendance laws. Extensive knowledge of Pennsylvania School Code related to school police officer. First Aid and CPR Training. Extensive knowledge/experience with local and state judicial system. Pennsylvania Act 120, Basic Act 2 or Act 235 training preferred. Pennsylvania Act 34 Clearance, Act 151 Clearance, FBI Clearance (self-paid). National Association of School Resource Officers certification (NASRO). Drug Screening (self-paid). Act 126 & Act 71 Training Certificates. Must be a High School Graduate. Transcripts. Letter of Interest, Resume and Application through the District website.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Take the Oath of Office as a School Police Officer. Enforce all York City School discipline and attendance policies. Maintain a working knowledge of all Federal, State, school, and departmental protocols and procedures. Maintain a safe and secure environment in the building. Balance the need to protect students, staff and property with the desire to create an open environment that remains conducive to learning. Contact and/or assist local law enforcement and emergency personnel when needed or while present on school district properties. Serve as a liaison between the two organizations. Work closely with the York City Police Department. Supervise and evaluate monitors. Assist in providing security and control student behavior in restrooms, hallways, on property, at school events, and at other areas as assigned. Monitoring the hallways for proper identification, (e.g., Hall Passes for students, Visitor Passes for visitors). Retrieving students from various classes as requested by staff. Possible removal of students from property as requested. Insure proper operation of fire systems, intrusion systems, rescue assistance systems, elevators and phones, emergency generators, along with notifying proper individuals in the event of system malfunction or failure. Primary individual to respond to alarm or trouble signals from each system. Enforce parking restrictions and issue traffic and non-traffic citations. Monitor citations issued. Participate in all court hearings and matters of prosecution as requested. Report all unauthorized usage of buildings and properties to the Office of the Superintendent, Chief of School Police and/or Building Principals. Approach and question individuals for proper permits and authorization. Assist District staff with problem students and adults. Provide traffic or crowd control for specified events. Work with surveillance equipment and staff when and where needed. Participate in all departmental training and continuing practical education as required. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding matters involving students or District employees. All SPO's must attend and successfully complete annual in-service approved by municipal Police Officer Education and Training Commission (MPOETC). Perform other job-related tasks as mandated by the Office of the Superintendent and Chief of School Police
