The Upper School Principal serves as the chief instructional leader for grades 6–12, cultivating a culture where academic rigor, innovation, student ownership, and continuous improvement thrive. This role is ideal for a courageous, compassionate, and visionary leader who can inspire faculty excellence, champion meaningful learning experiences, and help students develop the skills and mindsets needed to lead and innovate in a rapidly changing world. The successful candidate will be a visible and trusted presence throughout the school community, engaging with students, faculty, families, and staff while advancing Sagemont Prep’s mission and long-term goals. As Upper School Principal , you will lead with integrity, creativity, and strategic clarity. You will support a future-focused academic program, strengthen instructional practice, cultivate emerging leaders, and establish systems that promote sustainable excellence. You will also work in close partnership with Lower School leadership to ensure a cohesive PK3–12 educational experience through meaningful academic, cultural, and co-curricular engagement. You will also: Serve as the chief instructional leader for grades 6–12, supporting academic programming, faculty excellence, student growth, and schoolwide improvement. Lead the continued development of a future-focused academic program that balances rigor, innovation, intellectual exploration, and authentic application of learning. Analyze student achievement data and use data-driven insights to guide recommendations, decisions, and implementation of the Sagemont Prep curriculum. Coach teachers in classroom management, instructional methodology, assessment practices, curriculum alignment, and general school procedures. Lead the design and implementation of faculty orientation, professional development, mentoring, and teacher evaluation programs. Partner with faculty to identify opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, experiential education, leadership development, entrepreneurship, and real‑world problem solving. Ensure students are well‑prepared for success beyond graduation through rigorous academics, personalized guidance, and strong college‑and‑career‑readiness programming. Oversee academic guidance related to grading practices, assessment standards, instructional expectations, and student progress. Foster a culture of curiosity, reflection, responsible risk‑taking, social responsibility, and continuous growth. Collaborate with all school departments to ensure effective communication, planning, and execution of key school programs, initiatives, and events. Build and maintain positive, trusting relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders. Participate in and plan events within the broader school and local community. Participate regularly in activities that support student recruitment, retention, enrollment growth, and a vibrant Upper School experience. Assist with faculty and staff recruitment by participating in recruitment events, interviews, candidate evaluation, and hiring recommendations. Develop and maintain an ongoing partnership with Lower School leadership, faculty, staff, and students to support a cohesive PK3–12 school experience. Communicate proactively, clearly, completely, and professionally with internal and external stakeholders. Model sound judgment, accountability, high standards, thoughtful decision‑making, and a deep commitment to Sagemont Prep’s mission. What We’re Looking For 5+ years of successful educational leadership experience required, preferably in an independent school, private school, college‑preparatory, middle school, or high school setting. Demonstrated success in faculty development, instructional leadership, academic program innovation, and fostering a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement. Strong ability to clearly articulate and advance a school vision that inspires faculty, staff, students, families, and community stakeholders. Proven ability to lead with courage, compassion, creativity, integrity, and a deep commitment to student success. Strong understanding of curriculum leadership, student achievement data, instructional coaching, assessment practices, and academic program development. Ability to recognize emerging educational trends and thoughtfully evaluate opportunities to strengthen teaching and learning. Demonstrated ability to empower others, cultivate emerging leaders, and build high‑performing teams. Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly, proactively, concisely, and effectively both verbally and in writing. Strong relationship‑building skills with the ability to establish meaningful trust with students, faculty, families, staff, and community partners. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, document work accurately, maintain attention to detail, and perform effectively under pressure. Strategic thinker who can align daily decisions with long‑term institutional goals while anticipating future opportunities and challenges.
