Corporate Counsel PositionThis position is for employment with NYK Group Americas Inc. We are seeking a talented and proactive Corporate Counsel to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of legal experience, with a strong interest in the maritime industry (experience preferred but not required). The Corporate Counsel will provide legal support across various business functions, focusing on contract review, compliance, and governance matters. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment supporting both domestic and international operations.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReview, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts including NDAs, customer service agreements, vendor contracts, and real estate leases.Collaborate with outside counsel on legal matters as needed.Support the business divisions in day-to-day commercial transactions and operational needs.Assist with global and regional governance, risk assessment, and compliance programs, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and company policies.Conduct compliance training sessions for employees across different departments.Provide legal guidance on industry-specific issues, including maritime regulations (preferred but not required).Maintain organized records of legal documents and ensure timely updates to contract templates and policies.Stay informed about changes in relevant laws and regulations impacting the company's operations.QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.Admission to the New Jersey Bar or eligibility to be admitted as NJ in-house counsel.2-5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in corporate law, commercial contracts, or related fields.Strong negotiation and drafting skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.Maritime industry experience is preferred but not required.Preferred Attributes:Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.Proactive problem-solver with sound judgment.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across functions.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and provide practical, business-oriented advice to legal and non-legal stakeholders.Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.Commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality.Compensation: 130K-150K Benefits - NYK offers a generous Employee Benefits Package including:Medical, Dental, and Vision401k with a company match and Pension PlanFlexible Spending Accounts, Life Insurance, Tuition Assistance Program, Vacation, and much more.Any and all benefits offered are subject to the eligibility requirements, terms, and provisions set forth in the respective policies and plan documents, which you may request from Human Resources.About NYK Group Americas Inc.Founded in 1885, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) has become a leader in global marine transport by meeting challenges head on and achieving steady growth.
