Job Summary City/State: West Nyack, New York | Department: West Nyack Ambulatory Surgery Center_2 | Work Shift: Day | Work Days: Monday-Friday | Scheduled Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM | Pay Rate: $135,000–$145,000 USD per year. The Nurse Manager provides clinical and administrative leadership for a defined patient care area. Responsibilities include 24‑hour accountability for the management and long‑term planning of the patient care area, implementation of the nursing process, staff development, enhancement of quality of patient care appropriate to the age/development of the patient population, and cost containment. The Nurse Manager also provides leadership, motivation, and clinical expertise in the management and coordination of specific nursing unit(s) to deliver quality patient care. Essential Functions Establishes and implements standards of care based on evidence or best practice, and evaluates patient care through organizational policies, procedures, and practices. Provides a clear sense of direction to the department, secures relevant information, identifies key issues, sets priorities, and makes timely decisions with administrative direction. Creates an environment that supports the patient experience, heightens the overall perception of the hospital as a premier healthcare provider, and consistently achieves organization‑wide goals for patient satisfaction. Collaborates with other departments to create systems that problem‑solve ongoing issues impacting departmental/organizational goals and/or patient care delivery. Schedules staff to meet patient care needs, develops staffing schedule, makes staffing adjustments on own and subsequent shifts, communicates staffing concerns, overtime patterns, and absenteeism, and reviews time and attendance for staff, submitting to payroll on time and without errors. Establishes a system to share internal and external communication with direct reports by conducting regular staff meetings and maintaining a communication book or bulletin board. Interviews and selects candidates for hire, ensures new employees are oriented to the department and receive appropriate training, and achieves designated turnover and vacancy rates for the area of responsibility. Ensures staff receives effective and timely feedback for performance/competency and provides meaningful recognition to staff that exceed or meet expectations. Demonstrates and applies a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and other departmental functions (e.g., JCAH, NYDOH). Demonstrates the ability to be flexible when change occurs, manages change, helps others adapt, and initiates change when needed. Customer Service Demonstrates personal excellence in customer service for both internal and external customers. Communicates with internal and external customers and business contacts with high tact and professionalism. Holds staff accountable for the delivery of excellent customer service. Participates in team efforts to increase the level of customer satisfaction and creates/maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, coworkers, and facility. Performance Improvement Recognizes opportunities for improvement, collects and assesses data, and develops, implements, and evaluates a performance improvement plan. Achieves effective departmental compliance with performance appraisals, staff competencies, and annual employee health requirements. Achieves and maintains competitive departmental performance and productivity measures as defined by standard benchmarking agencies. Identifies needs, plans, and facilitates staff education and development to maintain unit‑based clinical/professional competency, utilizing resources to maintain and improve self‑knowledge and development and fostering the same for employees. Encourages employees to participate in employee opinion surveys and ensures departmental score for overall job satisfaction meets or exceeds national healthcare norms. Demonstrates compliance with licensure/certification requirements and the timeliness of their submission. Budget Completes operational and capital budgets that reflect required workload, forecasted units of service and programmatic changes. Manages variances in the budget, including human resource management and expense management, and monitors budget expenditures with accurate, objective variance analysis. Ensures end‑of‑year financial performance meets budget expectations. Collaborates with employees to control costs and pursue additional revenue opportunities. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required. Minimum of 3 years related experience within designated specialty, with demonstrated leadership qualities. National certification in area of expertise preferred. Registered Nurse license, New York State Board of Nursing required.
