Job Title: Production Coordinator Reports to: Orchestra and Production Manager Mission: To inspire and engage our community through exceptional musical and educational programs. Concert attendance has increased by over 75% since before the pandemic, reflecting the community’s strong support for live music. Following a successful inaugural endowment campaign that surpassed $15 million, a second campaign is underway to further strengthen the Symphony’s long-term artistic and financial foundation. In 2025, the CSO marked a major milestone with its debut at Carnegie Hall. The Opportunity: The Production Coordinator supports all technical and logistical elements of Charleston Symphony performances, rehearsals, and events. This position ensures each production meets the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and artistic integrity while acting as a key liaison between the orchestra, guest artists, venues, and production partners. From classical concerts to special events, the Production Coordinator ensures that every detail is executed with excellence—from the first truck load-in to the final bow. Core Responsibilities 1. Delivering Excellence on Stage and Behind the Scenes Support planning and execute all production elements for Masterworks, Pops, Chamber, Education, Fundraising, and Donor events. Create and maintain production timelines, stage plots, lighting plans, and technical documentation. Coordinate venue logistics, permits, rentals, and backline requirements as assigned by Orchestra and Production Manager Serve as the primary on-site liaison for venue technical staff, stagehands, and rental vendors. Ensure accurate implementation of technical riders, guest artist needs, and rehearsal/performance requirements. Lead all load-ins, setups, breakdowns, and load-outs, including management of orchestra chairs, stands, risers, percussion, AV equipment, and instruments. Manage AV and sound reinforcement needs including livestreaming and recording logistics. Ensure compliance with orchestra contracts, union rules, and internal policies. Train and supervise part-time production crew and coordinate schedules and responsibilities. Monitor and maintain stage safety standards, including proper configurations, lighting, and climate control. 2. Supporting the Infrastructure of the Symphony Maintain CSO production equipment, including inventory and upkeep of chairs, stands, transport cases, AV gear, and lighting equipment. Drive and maintain the Symphony’s 26’ box truck and coordinate transportation logistics. Organize storage spaces and maintain production assets across multiple locations. Support the implementation and use of artistic operations software and tools. Maintain accurate production budgets, quotes, and cost tracking to ensure financial alignment. Qualifications Ideal Candidate A proactive, solutions-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated experience in stage management, production, or technical direction—preferably in performing arts or live event settings. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure. Effective communicator with excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with orchestral production needs and instruments is strongly preferred. Competence with AV and technical equipment, including mic arrays, HDMI/XLR cables, DI boxes, amps, video switchers, and lighting systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), Dropbox, Arts Vision Lucidchart, and related tools—or the willingness to learn. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform load-in/load-out tasks. Valid driver’s license and comfort operating a 26’ medium-duty truck. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by the performance schedule. Passion for the arts and a commitment to the Charleston Symphony’s mission.
