April Hill Park Stewardship Event (age 6+) Referral Portland Parks & Recreation's - Natural Area Stewardship program works with volunteers of all ages to help enhance and restore Portland Parks natural areas, to provide habitat to wildlife and insects, and provide safe trails to park visitors. About the Project Join PP&R and the Friends of April Hill Park to remove invasively growing species and support other stewardship in April Hill Park! Come when you can and stay as long as you can. We'll meet by the Giant Sequoia near the playground and then head into the park's natural area to remove invasively growing species such as English ivy. Tools and gloves are provided for you, but remember to wear sturdy, closed‑toe shoes and dress for the weather, as the ground can be uneven. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated; we'll have snacks, coffee, and water for your convenience. We will instruct on the best practice and techniques for ivy removal without harming native plants. For the safety of staff and other volunteers, please stay home if you are feeling sick. Thank you for helping to keep Portland parks healthy and beautiful! Registration is required for all stewardship events, unless otherwise noted. Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness. All tools, gloves and training to do the task is provided. While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact the event coordinator listed in the description before arriving with a large group. This will ensure that there are enough gloves and tools for everyone to work. We are also available to schedule special service events at your group's convenience during the week or on weekends. Volunteers must 6 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under age 14 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.
