Position Summary The touch labor electrician is a skilled trades position responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of electrical systems and equipment aboard U.S. Navy and commercial vessels. This role supports new construction, maintenance, modernization, and repair projects while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer specifications, shipyard standards, and applicable electrical codes. Marine Deck Electricians play a vital role in supporting mission readiness by delivering quality workmanship and maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism. What will you Do?

This role supports new construction, maintenance, modernization, and repair projects while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer specifications, shipyard standards, and applicable electrical codes. Marine Deck Electricians play a vital role in supporting mission readiness by delivering quality workmanship and maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism. What will you Do?
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and test shipboard electrical systems and equipment.
- Read, interpret, and work from electrical drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Inspect, groom, troubleshoot and repair ship's and ship's temporary support electrical equipment such as motors, cables, control panels, motor starters, switches, navigation lights, resistor banks, appliances and lighting equipment.
- Install and Cut-in cables and perform connection/hookup of electrical equipment such panels, switches and boxes and inspect, groom, and repair same.
- Use a multi-meter to perform voltage checks, electrical safety checks, etc.
- Install, maintain, modify, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of electrical temporary support systems, such as temporary alarm, lighting, and power distribution systems containing components such as transformers, distribution panels, control panels, safety switches and service trees using a variety of manual and power operated machinery.
- Install and terminate electrical cables, connectors, panels, switchboards, lighting systems, motors, and control equipment.
- Perform continuity, insulation resistance, voltage, and operational testing using appropriate electrical test equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults and determine corrective actions to restore system functionality.
- Remove and replace damaged or obsolete electrical components and wiring.
- Route, secure, and label electrical cables in accordance with shipyard specifications and customer requirements.
- Ensure all work complies with NAVSEA standards, OSHA regulations, and company safety policies.
- Maintain accountability for assigned tools, equipment, and materials.
- Work safely in confined spaces, elevated areas, and aboard vessels under construction or repair.
- Coordinate work activities with supervisors, production teams, and other trades to ensure project schedules are met.
- Complete required documentation and quality control inspections.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Electrical Foreman or Superintendent.
- Ability to read and write effectively.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from electrical drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain all required shipyard access credentials.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability and understating of a multi-meter to perform voltage checks, electrical safety checks, etc.
- Ability to Install, maintain, modify, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of electrical temporary support systems, such as temporary alarm, lighting, and power distribution systems containing components such as transformers, distribution panels, control panels, safety switches and service trees using a variety of manual and power operated machinery.
- Test, repair and stage cables in the shop for use on submarines and military vessels.
- Ability to Fabricate electrical connectors.
- Minimum of 2 years of marine electrical, shipyard electrical, industrial electrical, or related experience , preferably in a shipboard environment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and safe work practices.
- Ability to safely operate electrical testing equipment and power tools.
- OSHA Maritime, CPR/First Aid, or other applicable certifications are preferred but not required.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work for extended periods.
- Lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated locations, and varying weather conditions.
- Ability to distinguish wire colors and identify electrical components.
- Continuous visual awareness and mental focus.
- Ability to work 8-12-hour shifts.
- Availability to work 5-7 days per week, including overtime as needed.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.
- Required physical examination and respirator fit testing.
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Background check, including verification of the past seven years of employment history.
- Ability to obtain and maintain shipyard and military installation access credentials.
