Head of Data

Role Description

As Head of Data at AIOS, your fundamental role is to own the data stack end to end. You will take ownership of the entire function, setting the technical direction, developing our team, governing company metrics, and ensuring every AIOS leader can make decisions using data they trust.

• Ensure pipelines, models, and dashboards are reliable.
• Maintain a clean, documented, and scalable dbt layer.
• Define precise, canonical definitions for every core company metric.
• Enable leaders to confidently use Hex AI to explore trusted data.
• Establish clear contracts between Engineering and Data for product data entry.
• Build the evidence layer required for regulatory discussions about clinical and AI systems.
• Understand important metrics across various domains (growth, activation, retention, etc.).
• Manage the existing Analytics Engineering Lead and hire an additional Data Engineer.
• Remain close to the technical aspects while primarily focusing on managerial responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as a hands-on data IC and 3+ years leading teams.
• Deep fluency in SQL and dbt.
• Experience designing and operating a modern data platform.
• Understanding of production data systems beyond the modeling layer.
• Ability to design clean and understandable data models.
• Expertise in defining precise metrics from ambiguous business goals.
• Strong instincts for making AI-assisted analysis reliable and contextual.
• Ability to challenge senior leaders on misleading KPIs.
• Established monitoring and data-quality checks for business-critical data.
• Ownership of outcomes when issues arise with models or dashboards.

Requirements

• Experience in scaling a data function in a high-growth startup.
• Familiarity with Redshift or similar cloud data warehouses.
• Experience with collaborative analytics platforms like Hex.
• Knowledge of consumer metrics in subscription businesses.
• Experience building data systems for multiple brands or markets.
• Understanding of how operational data can serve as regulatory evidence.
• Ability to identify and build exceptional data talent.
• Capability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
