Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credential according to guidelines set forth by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtained within ninety (90) days of hire. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification or obtained within six (6) months of hire. Description: The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered by a physician. The position emphasizes specialty areas such as Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. The RRT monitors mechanical ventilation, administers medications, and performs patient assessments. An understanding of the ramifications of hemodynamic monitoring and blood work results is required. The role includes training and teaching of patients and staff. Essential Functions and Basic Duties: Competently deliver all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual. Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all Respiratory Care procedures per department policy and procedures. Verify physician orders for Respiratory Care and prepare reports accurately. Update and complete patient information to reflect the patient's current clinical status. Prepare and be ready to receive/give a report at specified times. Participate in department in-services, meetings, patient care rounds, and mandatory meetings. Keep the supervisor apprised of changes in workload and patient acuity. Complete data entry of all daily services and charges given to patients. Demonstrate excellent working knowledge of Respiratory Care instruments and equipment. Perform troubleshooting with appropriate problem resolution. Provide effective airway management, including bag/mask ventilation. Assist physicians with intubation and demonstrate safe suction techniques. Assist in orienting and training new employees, respiratory/nursing students, and precepts new employees. Perform arterial blood gas draws and monitor ventilator patients. Interpret flow volumes and pressure volume curves to initiate appropriate clinical changes. Complete continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements. Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements. Perform patient charge reconciliation and ensure timely submission for payroll preparation. Possess working knowledge of all cardiopulmonary equipment. Proficiently perform all assigned modalities provided by cardiopulmonary services. Translate medication dosages for neonatal and pediatric patients, using proper equipment and procedures. Assess adult and geriatric patients' special needs regarding respiratory care. Assess ventilator needs for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under the direction of a qualified physician. Fully assess patient respiratory status, make recommendations for therapeutic interventions, and document progress. Perform other duties as assigned.
