Linux Automation Engineer - HybridGenesis10 is currently seeking a Linux Automation Engineer - Hybrid for a contract position with a Global Financial Institution located in Charlotte, NC, Plano, TX, and Pennington, NJ. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated solutions that manage the end-to-end software update lifecycle across Linux platforms. The ideal candidate will focus on software packaging, certification, testing, and deployment in development, test, and production environments, with a strong emphasis on stability, compliance, and risk reduction. This position has a hybrid schedule requirement of a minimum of three days per week onsite.Key Responsibilities:Design and implement automation frameworks to manage Linux software updates and patching at scaleAutomate OS and application package deployment, upgrades, and rollbacksDevelop reusable libraries, modules, and workflows using Ansible, Shell, Python, or similar toolsIntegrate automation with CI/CD pipelines for continuous deliveryImplement automated pre-deployment certification checks (dependency validation, security baseline checks, version compatibility)Build and maintain automated test suites (functional, regression, and smoke tests) for patches and software releasesSupport phased rollouts with validation checkpointsAutomate zero or low downtime deployment strategiesImplement canary and rollback mechanismsCoordinate with release management, SRE, and platform teams to align deployments with change windowsImprove platform resilience, observability, and error handling within automated workflowsTroubleshoot automation failures and production deployment issuesEnsure updates comply with security policies, audit requirements, and regulatory standardsIntegrate vulnerability scanning and remediation into the automation pipelineMaintain accurate documentation and operational runbooksRequired Qualifications:5+ years of Linux engineering experience3+ years of hands-on automation and deployment experience in large-scale environmentsStrong experience with Linux system administration (RHEL)Hands-on experience with automation tools (Ansible strongly preferred)Proficiency in scripting/programming (Bash, Python, or similar)Experience automating software patching, upgrades, and deploymentsFamiliarity with CI/CD tools (Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, or similar)Understanding of package management (RPM, YUM/DNF, APT)Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS)Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work across multiple teams (platform, security, application, operations)Excellent documentation and communication abilitiesComfortable working in regulated, enterprise environmentsDesired Skills:Exposure to container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible Tower)Familiarity with monitoring and logging toolsPay range: $78.04 - $86.04 per hourOnly candidates available and ready to work directly as Genesis10 employees will be considered for this position.If you have the described qualifications and are interested in this exciting opportunity, please apply!
