Physician-Hospitalist

Job Title

The physician will provide comprehensive inpatient care for hospitalized Veterans 18 and older, including admission, evaluation, management, and discharge, ensuring safe and efficient transitions of care. All care is delivered while supervising learners; teaching includes dedicated formal teaching time and trainee evaluation. The selectee must demonstrate continued effort to stay abreast of emerging literature and guidelines and participate in section meetings, quality improvement initiatives and committee activities. The position includes on-tour time designated for self-directed scholarly work, which is expected as part of dual VA and Yale appointments. Recent repeated experience in paracentesis, lumbar puncture and point-of-care ultrasound preferred but not required.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, typically with 1 weekend day in-house while on service. Eight months per year is designated for clinical work and the remaining time for self-directed academic pursuits.
