Counter Staff

ALTBAU is a new bakery, cafe, and community space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, led by Chad Robertson, founder of Tartine Bakery, and slated to open in Fall 2026. We are seeking a friendly, energetic and reliable counter staff member to join our opening front of house team.

Responsibilities:

• Greet guests warmly and provide efficient, friendly service
• Take orders accurately and operate the point-of-sale system
• Process cash, credit card, and mobile payments responsibly
• Serve pastries, bread, and retail items, and provide knowledgeable recommendations
• Maintain a clean and organized counter and dining area, including bussing tables and restocking supplies
• Communicate clearly with the bakery and kitchen team to ensure smooth service
• Follow food safety and sanitation standards at all times
• Assist with opening, closing, and other daily operational tasks as needed

Qualifications:

• Prior customer service or restaurant experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable using a POS system and handling cash transactions
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to fifty pounds
• Flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
