Senior Associate - Data Governance Analyst

Data Governance Manager

In this role you will advance New York Life's data governance program by designing and optimizing metadata management, catalogs, and lineage; partnering with product managers, SMEs, and tech teams to improve data quality, discoverability, and regulatory compliance. You will drive adoption of governance tools, create workflows, and support data classification and governance artifacts. This position sits at the intersection of business and technology, enabling timely, data-driven decisions built on trusted information. Responsibilities

• Design and implement metadata management, catalogs, and governance workflows
• Maintain glossaries and metadata for assets
• Support data quality checks, PII/PHI classification, and lineage validation
• Collaborate with product managers, SMEs, and engineers to align business context with architecture
• Drive tool adoption through training, road-shows, and playbooks
• Contribute to Agile ceremonies (Jira) and backlog refinement

Key requirements

• 5-7+ years of professional experience with 2-3+ years in data governance
• Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data cataloging/lineage
• Proven ability to translate business needs into governance policies and workflows
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Hands-on experience with Atlan or similar metadata tools
• Familiarity with data quality and observability tools (e.g., Anomalo)
• Strong SQL skills for data lineage analysis
• Experience applying governance frameworks, glossary management, and stewardship processes
• Experience in Agile environments using Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint
