Senior Tax Specialist (Individual/1040 Focus) Department(s): CPA Location: C2 Corporate Headquarters in Novi, MI About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced tax professional to review individual income tax returns (IRS Form 1040). This is a hands‑on, individual contributor role focused on technical excellence, quality control, and client service. This position is well‑suited for someone who enjoys in‑depth tax work and collaboration, without the expectation of managing large teams or pursuing a partner track. Responsibilities Review individual income tax returns (Form 1040), including complex filings with investments, multi‑state issues, and pass‑through entities Identify errors, risks, and tax‑saving opportunities Provide clear, actionable feedback to preparers to improve overall return quality Communicate directly with clients to resolve questions and explain tax positions Contribute to individual tax planning and advisory discussions Maintain organized workflow and meet deadlines during peak season Utilize CCH Axcess and related tools to ensure accuracy and efficiency Required Qualifications 5+ years of public accounting experience with a strong focus on individual taxation Demonstrated experience reviewing (not just preparing) Form 1040 returns Experience with complex individual returns (investments, K-1s, multi-state, etc.) Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to communicate clearly with both staff and clients Comfort with tax software and technology (CCH Axcess experience preferred) Preferred Qualifications CPA, EA, or similar credential Experience with tax planning and financial advisory concepts Work Schedule Busy Season (Jan–April): Significant overtime expected Off-Season: Reduced hours and flexibility Full-Time: $75,000 – $100,000 annually Seasonal Contract (Jan–May): $40 – $70/hour Compensation will vary based on experience, technical expertise, and review background.
