Overview

CHLA Respiratory Care Residency Program is designed to teach Respiratory Care Practitioners to care for acutely ill and injured children in today’s increasingly complex technological environment. New graduates from our RCP Residency Program acquire extended clinical experiences in neonatal and pediatric care with appropriate support systems, for a successful transition from respiratory student to a professional Respiratory Care Practitioner.

Purpose Statement/Position Summary:

The Respiratory Care Practitioner I, under close supervision, conducts patient assessments, participates in the development of the plan of care, provides and evaluates basic patient care with assistance to an assigned group of patients according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs. Collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. Will follow applicable policies and procedures in handling supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:

New graduate or RCP with less than 1-year critical care experience. Basic knowledge of respiratory care principles and equipment. Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and assist in crises and emergencies; prioritize patient care tasks; communicates tactfully, professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing.

Education/Licensure/Certifications:

Graduate of CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. RCP license from the state of California. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the NBRC. Current American Heart Association(AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) required. Neonatal Pediatric Specialist certification from National Board of Respiratory Care is required within 1 year of hire and upon promotion to an RCP II. Additional competencies may be required by the work location.

Hours: Training will be days and permanent schedule after training will be nights (7pm - 7am)

Pay Scale Information

$85,654.40-$114,192.00

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates who meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates who exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
