About the Position

The unit consists of 24 private rooms. Patient types include a wide variety of medical patients as well as surgical cases. Average length of stay is between 1 to 4 days. Surgical patients include those undergoing orthopedic, spine, lumbar, cervical surgeries, and ENT procedures such as laryngectomies and thyroidectomies. The unit does not care for vented airways. Patient ratios are 1:3-5 during day/evening shifts and 1:5-8 during night shifts. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse, unit secretary, and hospitalists. Centralized telemetry monitoring is available 24/7 along with respiratory therapy. Assistance for peripheral blood draws is provided by phlebotomy staff. Techs on the unit can perform glucose checks, vital signs, and assist with activities of daily living. The charting system used is Epic. Equipment includes Alaris, Pyxis, and GE monitors. Travelers may be required to float to other medical-surgical units. Scheduling is done six weeks in advance, with weekend rotations every other weekend. Holiday expectations include working one holiday per contract. There is a fatigue policy in place for all staff. Scrub colors are flexible, except for camo and denim. The unit culture is fast-paced and has a supportive environment with excellent teamwork and communication.
