The Team

The Health Equity Policy Officer sits within the Health Improvement – Healthy Communities team in the Department of Health. Our team is dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of all Tasmanians through evidence‑informed, population‑level approaches that address the social and cultural determinants of health.

We work collaboratively across the Agency, with other government departments, community organisations, and statewide partners to reduce health inequities and improve outcomes for priority populations. The Role

• Lead the development and implementation of evidence‑informed policies, systems, and services that improve health and wellbeing outcomes for priority populations
• Provide high‑level advice, analysis, and strategic input on issues affecting priority populations, including preparing reports, briefings and ministerial correspondence
• Build and maintain strong partnerships across state, Commonwealth, and community sectors, representing the Agency in relevant forums
• Support and manage strategic initiatives and Service Agreements, contributing to research, evaluation, and knowledge translation that advances health equity in Tasmania

Requirements

• Relevant qualifications and/or high‑level understanding of the social and cultural determinants of health and health inequities, together with demonstrated experience in applying a population health framework and principles of health promotion and health equity to improve health and wellbeing
• Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain networks, relationships and effective working partnerships with community organisations statewide and all spheres of government maintaining the confidence of all stakeholders
• High‑level knowledge of current political, social, community and health service issues relevant to populations who experience poorer health outcomes and associated strategies for the improvement of health outcomes including systems and settings‑based approaches

Details of appointment

Permanent part‑time day worker position, working 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing 1 July 2026. Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full‑time, part‑time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$107,899 to $122,292 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
