In addition, the analyst works as an internal marketing resource providing expertise and information to people at various levels within the entire organization, including the Senior Leadership Team, Investor Relations, Business Development, and the Commercial side of the business.Access to Marketing Tools and ProcessesMSS provides a unique opportunity to gain exposure to proprietary, internal demand forecasting tools, as well as marketing tools and processes not available in a field role and not available at other companies in the industryExposure to Business ManagementMSS staff routinely works with corporate and division management.Broadened ViewThis position provides a broad enterprise view of Vulcan and the construction industry.Not the Same Thing Every DayThis type of work is hardly ever boring or mundane; you’ll always have something new and exciting to work on – projects that make a difference.Potential to Move Up in The OrganizationThis position can prepare someone for other roles within Vulcan, giving them exposure to other areas within the company (finance, sales, commercial excellence, operations, business development, executive team).What You’ll Do: Perform economic analysis using various data sets (both publicly available data as well as purchased data sets). Demographics analysis.Sales analysis and application to forecasting.Exposure to new technologies and data platforms (e.g. machine learning).Benchmark internal data vs external data.Assist in preparation of presentations for external conversations for both industry groups as well as Vulcan customers (as a value-added service for the Vulcan Commercial group).Seek out and vet new data sources.Serve as the primary backup for ongoing maintenance of GIS system, which includes the Competitive Intelligence database and logistics data.Assist Market Research team as needed by (a) supporting strategic growth plans in high-priority markets (b) executing strategically important demand forecasts and/or (c) providing GIS analysis supporting business development efforts.Assist in support of initiatives led by the VP of Marketing Support Services.Other duties as assigned.Skills You’ll Need: Education: - Economics / Marketing / Business - Math / Statistics / Data Analytics - Engineering / Geography / GIS - or similar to those above Desired (but not required) Skills: - GIS skills, particularly ESRI ArcGIS Pro - Working knowledge of Python or SQL - Experience in utilizing AI Tools (e.g. Gemini, NotebookLM) - Proficiency with Tableau Critical Competencies: - Research Focused: Knows how to find data that may not be readily available. - Analytical: Is willing to dig into the data to find the information that can be used. Organizes complex information or problems so that solutions can be found. Tries to build quantifiable backup to support intuitive notions about markets or the industry. - Organized: Has capacity to manage millions of data records across multiple data platforms. Can deal with Ambiguity: Can cope with data that is in conflict; can make a decision and act without having perfect information; isn't upset when things are up in the air; doesn't have to have all the answers or data before moving on. - Creative: Advances new and unique ideas; easily makes connections among previously unrelated notions; is viewed as having original ideas and is able to effectively brainstorm. - Problem Solver: Is able to solve problems in a timely manner using all of the above. - Patience/Flexibility: Is tolerant with people and processes; listens and checks before acting; tries to understand the people and the data before making judgments; implements change well; keeps composure under stress.
