The Department of Pediatrics, headquartered at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, is dedicated to training and developing the next generation of pediatricians and advancing pediatric care through innovative research. Position Responsibilities Advises the planning, development, and implementation of strategies for improving health outcomes, quality care delivery, and cost containment in conjunction with VCCN leadership, staff, and physician-led committees. Communicates with colleagues, CHoR and VCUHS Department Chairs, VCUHS medical practice administrative leadership, and legal and regulatory entities to champion CIN initiatives. Ensures communication and alignment with CHoR’s leadership and overall quality strategy. Engages and maintains relationships with private practice physician leaders in the community and CHoR faculty. Engages and maintains relationships with VCUHS clinical and administrative executive leaders; participates in community outreach efforts to educate and engage physicians around clinical integration and quality activities for pediatric patients. Participates in the development and execution of payer contracting strategies in cooperation with the VCCN Executive Director and other staff. Facilitates the review of quality and efficiency metrics to be applied to physicians participating in VCCN and leads the development of recommended performance thresholds for incentive-based payments based on selected metrics, in collaboration with the VCCN Quality Improvement Committee. Actively engages with VCCN Board of Managers and committees, as appropriate. Assists in developing future community physician leaders within VCCN. Leads and facilitates committees as needed to foster collaboration between participating CIN physicians. Develops a strong understanding of clinical quality and clinical integration programs, and governmental regulations that relate to and affect clinical integration activities. Other duties as assigned by Executive Director of CIN. Collaborates with Center for Team Care Medical Director to help develop Center for Team Care protocols, practice guidelines, and initiatives to improve delivery of contemporary, evidence-based care for pediatric populations; ensures clear communication to providers regarding expectations and standards of clinical care. Works with unit leaders and practices to reduce cost of care by realizing episodic and urgent care visits within the captive system, and by implementing Center for Team Care protocols and guidelines to streamline care and improve patient outcomes through proactive population health management using risk prediction tools. Leads with timely and effective bi-directional communication to all sub-specialty providers, assisting in the retention of employee and dependent care within VCU Health Systems via an integrated network of primary care and specialist care. Works with leaders and administrators to define and develop new business opportunities to meet anticipated, future needs of the pediatric patient community served. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit, interpreting data to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age and specific needs. Handles neonates (0‑4 weeks), infants (1‑12 months), pediatrics (1‑12 years), adolescents (13‑17 years). Qualifications Required Qualifications Medical Degree with board certification in a medical specialty. Must have an active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in Virginia or ability to obtain one. Ten (10) or more years of clinical practice experience in a hospital or health care system. Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to initiate and cultivate productive collaborative relationships with physician leaders at partner organizations. Experience as an active listener and change agent, with demonstrated ability to build consensus; experience promoting physician leadership development. Proven success working in a large complex organization with matrix reporting relationships; ability to maintain a high level of satisfaction with referring physicians, institutions, and members. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to negotiate and/or communicate with a wide variety of people; must be able to travel to the various partner organization sites as needed. Demonstrated experience fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds; or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. Preferred Qualifications MPH or equivalent. Strong understanding of clinical quality and clinical integration programs. Contract negotiation and experience in population health.
