Respiratory Therapist - Ochsner Westbank

Job Summary This Respiratory Therapy (RT-CRT) position provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support for patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. Responsibilities include setting up monitors, administering oxygen therapy, performing arterial blood gas and EKG analysis, delivering intermittent therapy, and assisting with artificial airway changes as ordered by a physician per established policies and procedures. Up to $15,000 sign-on bonus available. Education High School diploma or equivalent Experience None required. Certifications Current State of Louisiana License as a Respiratory Therapist Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard use. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally to patients, families, and healthcare team members. Familiarity with various software packages specific to the role. Job Duties Performs routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policy and procedure. Reviews and documents all clinical information regarding each patient. Educates patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans. Performs diagnostic procedures. Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the patient’s age. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy, appropriate introduction, and communication style. Other related duties as required; additional responsibilities may be added or amended at any time. Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility, and ensures compliance. Complies with the Ochsner Health System Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct; reports any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct, patient/employee safety, patient privacy, or other compliance-related concerns. Physical and Environmental Demands Very Heavy Work: occasionally exerting in excess of 100 pounds, frequently in excess of 50 pounds, and constantly in excess of 20 pounds to move objects. Physical demands include stooping, bending, reaching, grabbing, sitting or standing for prolonged periods, and traveling throughout and between facilities. Work schedule may require 24/7 availability, including weekends, holidays, and on-call duties. Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and communicable diseases; use of mechanical lifting devices or team lifts recommended.
