Systems Engineer - System Safety Engineer

Description Lockheed Martin Space has an early career System Safety Engineer opportunity at our Valley Forge, PA facility. The role involves leveraging systems engineering and system safety expertise to analyze hardware and software, establish and maintain system safety requirements, support life‑cycle engineering, trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition, and verification/validation of system requirements. Responsibilities Develop and/or update Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR). Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings. Develop and/or update System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements. Review and provide input to test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements. Coordinate with test range safety teams and write range safety reports to support testing. Develop and maintain a Hazard Tracking System (HTS) used to document real and potential hazards and their assessments and mitigations. This position is contingent on program award, expected in 3Q 2026. Qualifications Experience using System Safety Standards. Experience with the development, documentation, and verification of system requirements. Knowledge and application of System Safety design and operations safety principles, including hazard identification, analysis, risk mitigation, and associated deliverable documentation. Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Desired Skills Secret security clearance (or higher). Experience with MIL-STD‑882E, AFSPCMAN 91‑710, or other relevant industry and/or range safety standards. Experience defining safety requirements, influencing design integration, and verifying safety requirements. Software system safety experience. Experience participating in System Safety Working Groups. Experience with Strategic Missile Defense/Strategic Re-Entry Programs. Familiarity with MBSE. Familiarity with DOORs. Effective communication skills in group meeting/working environments with team members, development organizations, and customers. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). U.S. citizenship is required. Clearance level: Top Secret. Work Location and Schedule On‑site full‑time at the designated Lockheed Martin facility. Schedule: 9x80 every other Friday off.
