The Patient Accounts Support Clerk reviews, submits, and corrects required outside reports. S/he coordinates information for MANG Coordinators, billing services and appeals.

Qualifications:

Required Education:

• High school diploma or GED or the combination of education, knowledge, skills, mental development, and relevant experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.

Desirable Education:

• Certification in medical terminology.

Required Experience:

• Minimum of one (1) year of support services experience in admissions, medical records and/or patient accounts.

Desirable Experience:

• Minimum of two (2) years of support services experience in admissions, medical records, and/or patient accounts.
• Minimum of two (2) years of medical terminology experience in a health care setting.
• Knowledge of various reimbursement methods.

Duties & Responsibilities:

General:

• Possess general knowledge in the operation of CRT/personal computer.
• Ability to maintain significant level of mental/visual effort in order to review patient accounts.
• Possess interpersonal skills required to assist patients/third party payers via phone and in-person.
• Possess good organizational skills.
• Possess ability to establish priorities effectively.
• Self-directed and capable of independent follow-up.
• Willingness to assist team members.
• Demonstrate flexibility in accepting alternative assignments or working additional hours, when needed.
• Keep co-workers and supervisor informed about work related issues and concerns.
• Share constructive ideas about work and is respectful of different points of view.
• Accept constructive criticism about job performance and behavior.
• Address conflicts with co-workers and supervisor in a constructive manner.
• Acknowledge a customer’s presence immediately.  Smile and introduce yourself in a friendly, professional manner.
• Escort persons who appear to need directions or help to their destination.
• Answer phone giving name and department.
• Ensure that patient information is kept confidential.  Never discuss patients and/or their care in public areas.
• Practice elevator etiquette by giving patient first priority.
• Use resources and materials efficiently and effectively.
• Suggest cost savings opportunity.
• Perform job responsibilities efficiently and effectively taking into consideration good time management.
• Recognize that patient safety and performance improvement are priorities by striving to continuously improve service excellence, clinical excellence, performance and patient safety, quality outcomes, teamwork, patient care coordination, and resource management
• Maintain knowledge of current professional, hospital, and department policies, procedures and regulations.  Comply with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
