Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Bettelli Lab at the Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join an innovative research program focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of immune regulation in multiple sclerosis (MS).

BRI is an internationally recognized leader in translating discoveries in autoimmune diseases into clinical applications, offering a uniquely collaborative and patient-connected research environment.

Research Focus
This position centers on CD4⁺ tissue-resident memory T (TRM) cells and their roles in MS pathogenesis. The successful candidate will investigate:

• Mechanisms governing TRM cell differentiation and persistence
• Interactions between immune cells and CNS-resident cells
• Strategies to modulate TRM cells for therapeutic benefit

The work integrates cutting-edge immunology, neurobiology, and translational approaches, leveraging both human samples and established animal models of MS.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and lead independent research projects in neuroimmunology
• Perform in vitro and in vivo experiments, including murine models of multiple sclerosis
• Conduct tissue processing, flow cytometry, FACS sorting, and immunohistochemistry
• Apply molecular and genomic techniques (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, scRNA-seq, CRISPR gene editing)
• Analyze complex datasets and maintain rigorous experimental records
• Prepare manuscripts, presentations, and grant proposals
• Mentor junior lab members and contribute to a collaborative team environment

Candidate Profile

Essential:

• PhD in immunology, neuroscience, molecular biology, or a related field
• Strong background in immunology and molecular biology
• Experience with flow cytometry and murine disease models
• Demonstrated research productivity (including at least one first-author publication)

Preferred:

• Experience with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) or MS models
• Expertise in human primary immune cells
• Proficiency in high-dimensional flow cytometry and/or bioinformatics analysis
• Familiarity with single-cell genomics or CRISPR-based approaches
