Senior Consultant, Civil Engineer

This OpportunityWSP is searching for a Senior Consultant, Civil Engineer for our Charlotte, North Carolina office to be part of our Civil Design service line that supports WSP’s power, industrial, and municipal clientele across the southeast. The position relies heavily on an ability to interact with clients, team leadership skills, and technical knowledge. The successful candidate will have the ability to work on a breadth of civil projects ranging from erosion and sediment control plans, spill prevention, control, and countermeasure (SPCC) plans, hydraulics and hydrology design, civil grading, and landfill design and closure projects. This position will provide oversight and leadership to small to medium project design teams. This position will juggle multiple projects and adjust to a variety of priorities. As a civil engineer, the candidate will be responsible for execution of calculations, design options, reports, agency reviews, and construction drawings for civil design projects. The candidate will have a strong desire to interact with clients and foster long lasting relationships. Your ImpactManage and direct small to medium project design teams Prepare scope of work and costing documents for proposalsCoordinate with other senior engineering staff, lead junior team members, project stakeholders and other disciplines to manage an organized approach to project executionPerform professional civil engineering work including design of erosion and sediment control measures in compliance with state requirements, SPCC plans, site grading using AutoCAD Civil3D, hydraulic systems (closed and open conduits), hydrologic analyses, and stormwater management facilities.Prepare permit applications and respond to agency (owner) comments in designPrepare construction drawings and specifications to implement designsPrepare client-ready reports and drawingsEvaluate design options and understand cost/benefit of solutionsTraining and mentoring junior staffProficient in AutoCAD Civil3D , Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint softwareOccasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirementsWho You AreRequired QualificationsMinimum Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Professional Engineer registration in North Carolina, or ability to obtain within one year5-7 years of professional engineering experience (not including school)Valid state driver’s license. Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screeningMust be willing to travel to project sites and business meetings, as requiredProject management experience and team leadership skillsProficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Civil design software toolsProficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations. Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to junior-level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.Excellent leadership and interpersonal verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exists.
