Job Description

We are seeking a  Dental Assistant 1to join our team in the Periodontics Department. The role will support residents and faculty with surgical assistance and the management of supplies and equipment to ensure safe, efficient patient care.

Responsibilities:

• Provide properly sterilized instruments and equipment for residents.
• Provide chair-side assistance for faculty, residents, and hygienists as scheduled.
• Dispense supplies, instruments, and equipment for timely patient treatment.
• Monitor supply usage, prepare requisitions, and obtain authorization to reorder.
• Prepare the clinic daily, clean and stock cubicles, and refresh sterile water.
• Verify proof of patient payment for procedures and specialty items.
• Track and follow up on insurance pretreatment estimates.
• Check equipment functionality and coordinate repairs with vendors or staff.
• Review completion of forms and report deficiencies to faculty and residents.
• Help manage the daily clinic schedule to maintain efficient patient flow.
• Take dental radiographs in accordance with certification.
• Track and record medical, laboratory, and pathology reports in patient records.
• Maintain MSDS sheets for departmental materials.
• Maintain emergency equipment and assist with resuscitation procedures.
• Inform residents during orientation on clinic procedures and sterility maintenance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Dental Assistant.
• Current State of Ohio radiology certification.
• Annual CPR certification.
• 3 or more months of dental assisting experience.
• Technical knowledge of dental assisting and sterilization.
• Basic knowledge of computer software, Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Basic knowledge of insurance codes and forms.
• Demonstrated support and advocacy for students aligned with university values and policies.
• Consistent attendance and ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and patients face-to-face.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in a periodontics or surgical dental clinic.
• Familiarity with clinical scheduling systems and inventory controls.
