The Registered Nurse is a member of an interdisciplinary care team. This role provides patient‑centric care and is primarily responsible for nursing assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This is a 0.75 FTE part‑time onsite infusion float position servicing our Southlake Union and Northwest locations. The hours and days are variable. Responsibilities Assesses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluates patients’ adaptation to health changes Develops a plan of care based on patients’ disease, symptoms, and response to treatment Educates patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom management Coordinates with interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care Refers patients, families and caregivers as appropriate to other clinical resources/professionals such as social work, home health care, clinical nutrition, etc. Implements, evaluates and modifies plan of care Integrates research and evidence‑based knowledge into clinical practice Nursing Care and Assessment Demonstrate knowledge of standard treatment and medication side effects Perform nursing assessment, review relevant lab results, assess pain and other symptoms Administer IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, chemotherapy/biotherapy, and blood products Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs Demonstrate an awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of many agents administered and use correct precautions when handling them Follow all procedures regarding safe disposal of any materials used in the administration of chemotherapy or other hazardous agents and blood products Patient and Family Education Provide patient and family education in coordination with treatment and care plan Conduct learning needs assessment for patient and caregiver(s) Ensure patients have clinic contact information and understand when to call if symptoms arise or persist post‑infusion therapy Knowledge of treatment regimens for all disease groups at Fred Hutch Communication and Teamwork Communicate or escalate patient symptoms and concerns to provider as needed Collaborate with the care team to provide effective and efficient patient care Request consultation from social work, dietician, spiritual care, and other supportive care teams when the patient's situation indicates Knowledge of communication standards for different sites, team models, etc. Professional Development and Clinic Engagement Participation in continuing education, departmental projects, committee work, and quality improvement initiatives Train to specialties as needed across Fred Hutch Community Sites Enhanced awareness of trends and practice changes across care areas Qualifications Graduate from an accredited school of nursing Must have current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL) with the MSL primary state of residence updated to WA within 60 days of hire; this requirement may be waived under specific circumstances, subject to approval. Applicants without prior oncology experience will receive additional training and support Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent) and renewal required every two years Additional certification may be required depending on department. ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card required within 3 months of hire Critical thinking, ability to practice cognitive skills of analyzing, applying standards, discriminating, information seeking, logical reasoning, predicting, and transforming knowledge Ability to develop clinical judgment Time‑management skills; the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently Effective communication skills: looking and listening for cues, asking open‑ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, clarifying responses Effective listening skills: reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing Information delivery skills: checking what information the person knows, giving small amounts of information at a time, using clear terms and avoiding jargon, avoiding detail unless requested, checking for understanding, pausing, and waiting for a response Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing Certification in oncology or specialty practice area 2 years of RN Oncology experience in an ambulatory infusion setting Pay & Benefits The hourly pay range for this position is from $47.64 to $88.19, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Registered Nurses are paid on a step‑scale basis and are also eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree, preceptor, and certification. Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H‑1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H‑1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
