Director of Quality

About the work We're a precision machining and fabrication company and our teams build highly engineered components for customers who can't afford a single defective part — the kind of work where a tiny mistake doesn't stay tiny. We've got real scale: skilled machinists, a serious amount of CNC equipment, and a lot of combined know-how on the floor. But scale doesn't mean much if the quality doesn't hold up. That's the gap you're here to close. This isn't a job where you write a quality manual and walk away. You'll be on the floor, in the data, and in the room when something goes wrong — building a system from the ground up that actually changes how people work, not just what's written down. What you'll actually do Build and run a quality management system since the one we have isn't working — you will not inherit one that already works Be the person people come to first when something's off, whether that's a defect, a customer complaint, or a process that's quietly costing money Manage the quality team day to day, including coaching them through real problems, not just reviewing their reports Sit in on design and engineering conversations early, so quality isn't an afterthought bolted on at the end Build the actual procedures for process control, testing, and inspection — and make sure people use them Set up metrics that give people real, fast answers about whether a process is working, not vanity numbers Dig into root causes when something breaks, and fix the actual problem instead of patching the symptom Track quality data over time so you can see problems coming before they hit Translate customer specs into manufacturing requirements that are actually realistic to hit Score and monitor vendor quality, and hold suppliers accountable when they slip Read every contract and purchase order closely enough to catch the quality requirements buried inside Be the main point of contact for customers and suppliers when quality issues come up — and actually resolve them Own calibration and testing programs so nobody's flying blind Report straight to leadership on what's working, what's not, and what it's costing Run and survive internal and external audits without surprises Push Six Sigma and other real problem-solving tools into the culture — not as a poster on the wall, but as how people actually think Standardize the way work gets done across teams so quality doesn't depend on who's on shift Find the expensive, hidden cost of bad quality and go after it Mentor people on the floor so process thinking spreads beyond your own team Take on the stuff that doesn't fit neatly into a bullet — because that's most of this job What you need to do this job 7+ years in quality leadership inside a manufacturing environment — this isn't an entry point into quality, it's a role for someone who's already done the work A bachelor's degree, or the equivalent built through experience — we care more about whether you can do the job than where the degree came from Real, hands-on experience with Six Sigma or similar process improvement methods — not just the certification, the actual application Comfort being the person who has to deliver bad news to leadership or a customer, and the skill to do it constructively A few honest things about this role This is hands-on. You'll be on the floor as much as you're in meetings, and you'll be building things that don't exist yet rather than maintaining things that already do.
