Research Lab Tech I, Cancer Biology

Job Summary The research assistant has a key role in identifying therapeutic strategies in pediatric and adult cancers. The lab’s previous studies have led to FDA approval of new cancer drugs. The assistant will compare genomic, proteomic, and drug‑response data from cell cultures and mouse models to pinpoint drugs that target essential biological features in several cancer types. The role includes developing high‑throughput techniques to evaluate potential drugs more efficiently, preparing manuscripts for high‑impact journals, and coordinating national NIH‑funded research programs. This position is ideal for candidates preparing to attend medical or graduate school in the next 2‑3 years. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Contribute to genomic and proteomic screens to discover therapeutic targets in clinical human cancer specimens. Perform tumor cell cultures and evaluate the effects of treating cultures and mouse models with novel therapies. Execute genomic (DNA, RNA) analyses by high‑throughput sequencing, protein analyses by immunoblotting, and drug‑response assays. Record, summarize, and analyze data using basic statistics. Report progress at weekly laboratory seminars. Assist in preparing laboratory reagents and chemicals. Serve as a key team member in preparing high‑impact publications. Train new research assistants and postdoctoral fellows in standard molecular biology methods. Help the PI and others coordinate national research programs. Maintain departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, including quality assurance, safety, environmental affairs, and infection control. Qualifications Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in a biological or physical science. Some laboratory experience is a plus; undergraduate coursework or projects relevant to the lab’s research may be considered. Ability to execute multi‑step protocols and consult appropriately. Skill in methodically recording and analyzing data with basic statistics. Capability to contribute to manuscript drafts. Strong prioritization and organizational skills.
