Registered Nurse Med Surg

Job Summary:

The Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients on the Medical-Surgical unit, ensuring patient safety and quality outcomes. Responsibilities include patient assessment, medication administration, monitoring, documentation, patient and family education, and collaboration with the healthcare team. The RN applies advanced clinical skills and critical thinking to support continuity of care and prevent readmissions in a hospital setting. Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, interventions, and reassessments.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, oxygen, blood products, and other treatments accurately and timely.
• Monitor patient condition and report abnormalities to appropriate providers.
• Document all nursing activities and patient data accurately in the Cerner electronic health record system.
• Use Care Compass to organize assessments, care tasks, procedures, and patient education.
• Provide age-specific nursing care including cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation.
• Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, medications, wound care, pain management, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
• Communicate patient care information effectively using SBAR format during handoffs.
• Follow infection prevention protocols, universal precautions, and patient safety goals.
• Maintain patient confidentiality, dignity, and privacy at all times.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Serve as a mentor to nursing staff and promote continuous professional development.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum 5 years of Medical-Surgical or Emergency Room nursing experience.
• Previous traveler nursing experience.
• Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program.
• Current Colorado or Compact RN license.
• Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic health record system.
• Basic computer skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation and use of infusion pumps.
• Mentoring and leadership skills within nursing teams.

Special Considerations:

• Work performed in a hospital environment with exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and physical demands including lifting and patient positioning.
• Ability to manage stress and interruptions in a fast-paced clinical setting.
• Strict adherence to infection control, patient safety, and confidentiality standards.

Scheduling:

• Day shift: 0615 to 1845 hours.
• Three 12-hour shifts per week, totaling 36 guaranteed hours.
