If you have a background in this field, we want to hear from you.At UConn Health, this classification participates in all aspects of planning, design, development and maintenance of new or existing functionality in Electronic Health Records [EHR] and other clinical information systems for an assigned area. This includes providing analysis, development, modification, configuration, installation, programming, testing and maintenance of EHR and other Clinical Systems applications.THIS IS A HYBRID POSITION REQUIRING ON-SITE WORK ONE DAY PER WEEK AND CAN REQUIRE ADDITIONAL ON-SITE WORK AS ASSIGNED. SUBJECT TO CHANGE PER MANAGEMENT.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under the general direction of an employee of higher grade.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:Administrative and Project Duties:Participates in project planning sessions with team members to analyze requirements and provide design recommendations for moderate to complex solutionsPrepares and presents status updates for various projectsMonitors project status to ensure that service level agreements standards are met or exceededMaintains and manages project issue logEscalates problems when appropriateMaintains relationship and open communication channels with Clinical Systems vendor representativesTechnical Duties:Identifies solutions for moderately complex system requirementsPerforms in-depth analysis of workflows, data collection, reports details and other technical issues associated with the Clinical Systems environmentAnalyzes and researches enhancements to system components or within the Clinical Systems EHR environmentDefines and designs scope for each project individually or in concert with team members ensuring that applications are integrated with other systems.Makes moderately complex application design decisions in conformance with clinical and business operational policies and proceduresParticipates in solution design reviewsDevelops detailed specifications for software parameters/functions and changes to new or modified applications.Performs Clinical Systems installation/application upgrades, new structures or elementsDocuments system changes and problem resolutionsDevelops or modifies moderately complex Clinical Systems EHR customizations, configurations and workflowsPerforms Clinical Systems EHR application upgrades, new structures or elementsCreates test files and performs system testingProvides ongoing maintenance and tests [this includes audit trial monitoring, backups, system purges] to ensure Clinical Systems EHR solutions meet the organization's business needsProvides support to end users experiencing problems with Clinical Systems EHR applications and associated hardware and interfacing systemsEnsures the ethical use of data, as well as data integrity, security and confidentiality of protected health information.Provides for the preparation and maintenance of documentation at the user levels.Monitors clinical operational issues focusing on efficient and effective delivery of complete and accurate, for the assigned areas and specialties of the Clinical Systems EHR information in order to achieve quality outcomes.Coordinates training for staff on the use of the applications.Stays current on the Clinical Systems EHR platform and related advanced features of software development technologiesStays current on clinical practices, policies, procedures and workflows within the area of expertise.Performs other related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Considerable knowledge of the principles of systems analysis, design and decision supportConsiderable knowledge of clinical operations, policies and proceduresConsiderable knowledge of applicable clinical standard of practice as required by State, Federal, and accreditation organizationsKnowledge of standards/codes pertaining to the patient care environmentConsiderable knowledge of various systems and data analysis techniques and tools such as Swim Lane diagrams, As-Is and To-Be workflow design, fishbone diagrams, state transition diagrams, HER data model diagrams, data conversion and transformation mappings.Knowledge of computer technology support and capabilities.Considerable logical, analytical, problem solving and interpretive skillsAbility to take action to ensure customer satisfactionDemonstrated ability to use and apply clinical expertise and experience to design and configure Clinical Systems EHR solutions.Demonstrated ability to write and maintain system documentation and user how to guides.Ability to pay careful attention to detailsDemonstrated ability to analyze techniques and develop solution to problems in a timely manner.Effective oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills.Proficient in MS-Office including Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and VisioGeneral Experience & Training:Clinical EHR Systems: Six [6] years' experience in clinical informatics, clinical process redesign, clinical systems analysis, design and implementation, one [1] of which must be in acute care or direct patient care setting.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Incumbents in this class must have or achieve within six months EPIC certification in their assigned areas and specialties and maintain certification while in the position. SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:Associate Degree in Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, Clinical Informatics, or closely relevant/related field may be substituted for two [2] years of general experience.Bachelor's degree in software engineering, Management Information Systems, Clinical Informatics, or closely relevant/related field may be substituted for four [4] years of general experience.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Thorough working knowledge of standards and processes of the revenue cycle, in particular patient billing. Proficient with workflows and processes for Hospital Billing &/or Professional Billing for a Single Billing Office (SBO).Current certification in Epic Hospital Billing &/or Professional Billing.Experience with correct and accurate charges for hospital/professional billing revenue Integrity.Experience with the build and testing for the charge and billing requirements for new departments and patient services.WORKING CONDITIONS:May be required to work variable working hours during system implementation.May be required to participate in On Call rotation.May be required to work overtime to meet project deadlines and business needs.SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, 30-minute unpaid meal break.Why UConn HealthUConn Health is a vibrant, integrated academic medical center that is entering an era of unprecedented growth in all three areas of its mission: academics, research, and clinical care.
