Speech Language Pathologist - Flex/PRN – Acute Care This largely flex/PRN role involves confirming and interpreting physician referrals, performing patient assessments, and planning and implementing individualized treatment programs for patients across developmental and chronological ages within the acute care setting. Responsibilities Confirm and interpret physician referrals and orders. Conduct patient assessments, taking into account developmental/chronological age and medical diagnoses. Plan and implement individualized treatment programs to achieve goals in collaboration with patients and/or families. Coordinate care and clinical activities through verbal and written communication with patients, families, therapists, clinical team leaders, managers, physicians and other members of the health‑care team. Document in the patient’s medical record and complete patient care–related forms in compliance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies. Collaborate with clinical staff, support staff, volunteers and students to achieve efficient clinical activity and quality patient care. Participate in department and professional activities such as in‑services, performance improvement, program development/evaluation, new employee orientation, committee membership, peer review and staff meetings. May supervise Speech‑Language Pathology students in accordance with Virginia licensure and federal regulations. Orient new employees and provide guidance to volunteers, students, support or contract staff. Provide problem‑solving, consultation, advising or interpretation services to others. Assist with cost‑containment initiatives in the unit or department. Conduct and interpret videofluoroscopic studies when required. Perform required physical activities, including lifting, manipulating, pushing, pulling, bending, walking and maintaining standard precautions for exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Qualifications Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology from an accredited program. Clinical experience: site‑specific level of care preferred; one year required for Home Health positions. Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association or eligibility to complete a Clinical Fellowship Year; licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia. AHA BLS certification within six months of employment (from a Carilion approved program). Effective interpersonal, communication, customer‑service and teamwork skills.
