Director of Accounting

The Director of Accounting has overall responsibility for the accounting, financial controls, financial reporting, and tax areas of the company. In addition, the Director of Accounting has the primary responsibility for the creation of the annual operating and capital budgets. Compliance with GAAP and internal controls as well as company policies and procedures are critical elements of the job.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Directs all aspects of accounting operations (including AR, AP, and Payroll), overseeing all transactions related to the general ledgerEnsures records are maintained in accordance with GAAPManages and executes the month-end and year-end close processCoordinates, prepares, and reviews monthly financial resultsSummarizes the monthly financial results in the Monthly Financial ReportCoordinates/prepares the annual operating and capital budgetsDevelops and maintains all necessary accounting policies and systemsCoordinates year-end external audit/reviewResponsible for compliance with all tax rules and regulations including, as applicable, sales and use, property, income, and other business taxes; provides topside review of Sister tax returns prepared by outside accounting firmConducts risk assessment and evaluation of the control environmentDesigns and implements proper internal control environmentPerforms ongoing research on regulatory changes and compliance resources to strengthen the control environment, enhance efficiencies, and manage costsPrepares and circulates internal reports regarding profits, trends, costs, and compliance effortsProvides support to the Chief Administrative Officer/Chief Financial Officer as directedPerforms other related duties as directedSupervisory ResponsibilitiesAccounting Process ManagerLocal Resident AccountantKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities:Current and extensive knowledge of GAAPStrong technical accounting skills, including a thorough understanding of processes, systems, and controlsAbility to work in GL system and related sub-systemsKnowledge of internal controls and proper control environmentExcellent Excel and PPT skillsEducation:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance requiredCPA, preferredExperience:5 years of non-profit accounting preferred3 years as a company controller, assistant controller, or director of accounting or 5 years of public accounting experienceThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job.
