Controls Engineer – PLC Programmer (Direct Hire) | Batavia, IL (On-Site)Pay Range: $75,000 to $95,000

Overview

We’re hiring a Controls Engineer / PLC Programmer to support machine rebuild and repair projects by developing and maintaining PLC, HMI, and servo-drive programs , producing electrical schematics , and troubleshooting electrical and programming issues. This is a full-time, on-site role in Batavia, IL , with travel up to 30% for customer support.

What You’ll Do

• Partner with Engineering, Sales, and Rebuild teams to confirm project scope and requirements for new rebuild/repair jobs
• Identify, pull, and distribute parts for jobs; coordinate with Purchasing on components and replacement parts (including obsolete electrical parts)
• Create electrical schematics and provide technical support for electrical/programming issues
• Prepare parts for outside services and create purchase orders as needed
• Develop, update, and maintain PLC, HMI, and servo-drive programs while keeping software/hardware knowledge current
• Provide phone and on-site customer support; travel to customer sites when needed
• Complete final job reviews, document work with photos, update job records, and return unused parts to inventory
• Perform requested tests (e.g., coating-thickness checks and thermal imaging ) and deliver detailed reports
• Support inventory activities, including distributing manufactured parts after final inspection and helping load/unload machinery

Must-Have Qualifications

• Experience with PLC programming , HMI design , and servo drives
• Experience with Allen-Bradley software (e.g., RSLogix 500, Ultraware, PanelBuilder )
• Ability to read electrical schematics; basic knowledge of electrical/electronic circuits
• Experience with AC motors and VFDs
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 30%

Nice-to-Have

• Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical
• Familiarity with ERP systems and Microsoft Word/Excel

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Occasionally work in a non-climate-controlled shop environment
• Use basic shop tools (drills, hammers, screwdrivers, sanders, saws)
• Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs
