Perfusionist – Saint Louis University Hospital St. Louis University Hospital, MO-SSM Health, located at 1201 Grand, is seeking a skilled and motivated Perfusionist to join our team. This role supports complex surgical procedures within an academic medical center environment, delivering high-quality patient care while collaborating with physicians, residents, and multidisciplinary clinical teams. Job Highlights Operates extra‑corporeal circulation equipment during procedures requiring artificial support or the temporary replacement of circulatory or respiratory functions. Requires a Missouri Perfusionist license at hire and a graduate of an accredited perfusion program. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Perfusion Program Missouri Perfusionist license (required at time of hire) At least 1 year of perfusion experience preferred Prior academic medical center experience strongly preferred Schedule & Hours Flexible hours – details discussed during the interview process Job Summary Operates extra‑corporeal circulation equipment during procedures requiring artificial support or the temporary replacement of circulatory or respiratory functions. Job Responsibilities and Requirements Prepares for procedures by performing patient assessment Monitors the patient’s anticoagulation, electrolyte, acid–base, and blood‑gas status throughout procedures and takes appropriate action to resolve imbalances Sets up and operates extracorporeal devices for temporary replacement or support of cardiac or pulmonary function Administers pharmacological agents, anesthetic agents, and blood products as necessary during operation of extracorporeal devices Sets up and initiates intra‑aortic balloon pump therapy and autologous blood processing devices Ensures that perfusion packs, equipment, and supplies are available for scheduled and emergency surgeries Performs assembly, maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of equipment and maintains adequate supplies Provides proper documentation of assessments, activities, and procedures Works in a constant state of alertness and safety Performs other duties as assigned Education and Experience Graduate from a Perfusion Program No specific experience required for entry level Physical Requirements Constant standing and walking Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry Frequent use of vision for distances near (≤20 inches) and far (≥20 feet) Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication; must hear alarms and machinery sounds Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25–50 lbs Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and to identify colors Rare use of smell to detect odors Rare driving Required Licenses and Certifications Illinois Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA) Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) – American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) Perfusionist, Licensed – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Missouri Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA) Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) – American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) Perfusionist – Missouri Division of Professional Registration Oklahoma Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA) Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) – American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) Perfusionist – Oklahoma Medical Board Wisconsin Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA) Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) – American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) Perfusionist – Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services Work Shift Day Shift (United States of America) Job Type Employee Department View phone number on click.appcast.io Perfusion Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Benefits Paid Parental Leave – one week of paid parental leave for newborns or newly adopted children (pro‑rated based on FTE) Flexible Payment Options – voluntary benefit through DailyPay for eligible hourly team members, offering instant access to earned, unpaid base pay before payday (fees may apply) Upfront Tuition Coverage – funded through FlexPath for eligible team members Equal Opportunity Employer SSM Health is an equal‑opportunity employer.
