SUMMARY OF POSITIONThis position will assist in planning, promoting, coordinating, and directing all recreation programs within the Recreation Department. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, innovative, a hard worker, and adaptive to any type of environment. This position requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekend mornings, and afternoon hours.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (Essential functions include the following and the Physical Requirements listed below):Assists Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Assistant with planning of special events and day camp programsResponsible for set-up and tear down of equipment at special eventsAssists vendors, volunteers, and site staff with directions, rules and problem solvingAssists in coordinating and scheduling of programmingEffectively communicates with staffManages supplies and equipment by maintaining an annual inventoryAssists with creating standard operating procedures for facilities and programsOther duties as assigned.BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or equivalent required; college credit in a Recreation, Parks, or similar degree field preferred.Valid Driver's License & driving record acceptable to the CityCPR, AED, and First Aid certified or the ability to become certified within one (1) month of hireKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIREDMaintains regular and timely attendance on an ongoing basisWritten and verbal communication skillsBasic computer and office equipment skillsPublic and internal relationship skillsSupervisory and instruction skillsAbility to prioritize multiple assignments.Ability to communicate openly, effectively, and professionally at all timesPossession of personal characteristics that create and maintain interest and enthusiasm with public and private groups and individuals of all agesAbility to maintain excellent public relations with the general public relations with general public and user groupsAvailability to work evenings, weekends, or other irregular hours, and as necessary, to make and receive contacts by telephone and in person efficiently and effectively during irregular hoursAbility to communicate effectively with the press, as authorized, to inform public of eventsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSSufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and recreation facility settingFrequent standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling for prolonged periods of timeManual dexterity to operate office equipment, requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination skills, including skillful use of a computer keyboardAbility to travel to various recreation sitesAbility to verbally communicate effectively to exchange informationAbility to lift 15 pounds on a frequent and regular basis, and up to 25 pounds on an occasional basisAbility to bend, stretch, and maneuver objects weighing up to 25 pounds on a frequent and regular basis.WORKING CONDITIONSMost work will be performed in a recreational setting, either outdoors or indoors, with the Employee traveling to different locations. However, employee will occasionally work in an office setting.The Employee may be exposed to inclement weather conditions and work and/or walk on various types of surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces.The Employee will frequently be required to work evenings and weekends, and occasionally work extended hours.The City of Fairview Heights is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
