Job Title: Upstream Processing Technician Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Upstream Processing Technician to support the manufacture of commercial and clinical biologics. The candidate will adhere to Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and perform a variety of functions related to upstream cell culture processes. These functions include the propagation of mammalian cell culture, aseptic cell culture operations, execution of large-scale production bioreactors, and conducting large scale filtration or centrifugation. This role offers a great opportunity to be involved in large-scale biological and chemistry pharmaceutical operations.

Responsibilities

• Review all area documents.
• Manage the WNS.
• Assist in manufacturing controls and calibrators, and complete batch records following cGMPs.
• Perform in-process assays using equipment such as spectrophotometers, pH meters, and clinical analyzers.
• Weigh, transfer, and mix chemicals as required.
• Perform product filtrations.
• Clean and steam steel tanks (CIP/SIP).
• Prepare glassware and steel tanks for sterilization in autoclave and operate the autoclave.
• Maintain lab equipment including pumps, pH meters, and flow meters.
• Keep department lead or manager updated on all issues.
• Monitor stocks of common lab supplies.
• Perform other job duties as required.
• Respond to emergency notifications.
• Work flexible hours, including weekends.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of work experience in manufacturing, operation, production, lab setting, or related field.
• Bachelor's Degree in Science with a focus on aseptic technique, cell culturing, and pipetting.
• Experience in a cGMP environment and knowledge of cGMP practices.
• Proficiency in aseptic techniques, cleanroom operations, and chemical concepts.
• Subject Matter Expertise in upstream processing steps.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Preferred: 6 months of experience in a GMP regulated environment.
• Preferred: 4-year STEM degree.

Work Environment

This position requires working in cleanroom and aseptic suites, where you must be willing to gown up in a full gowning suit including bodysuit, gloves, hair and beard nets, face covers, and safety glasses. The work schedule consists of rotating 10-hour shifts, working 40 hours a week, with a specific two-week rotation. You will need to be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs independently and stand for 80% of the shift. Note that makeup, jewelry, nail polish, cologne, perfume, scented lotions, or hair care products are prohibited.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
