SummaryThe Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall leadership and clinical direction of the nursing department.The DON will oversee nursing operations, staffing, clinical quality, staff development, regulatory compliance, infection prevention, care planning, and quality improvement while partnering closely with the Administrator and interdisciplinary leadership team.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide overall leadership and direction to the nursing departmentOversee daily nursing operations and resident careLead and support RNs, LPNs/LVNs, CNAs, and nursing leadershipEstablish clear clinical and performance expectationsMonitor resident care and clinical outcomesConduct regular rounds and maintain visibility throughout the facilityMonitor changes in resident condition and ensure appropriate follow-upReview incidents, falls, infections, wounds, hospitalizations, and other clinical eventsEnsure accurate and timely clinical documentationOversee care planning and interdisciplinary collaborationPartner with MDS, therapy, dietary, social services, activities, and physiciansDevelop, implement, and monitor nursing policies and proceduresEnsure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulationsMaintain ongoing survey readinessLead nursing preparation for state and federal surveysDevelop and implement corrective action plans when necessaryMonitor quality measures and clinical performanceLead and participate in QAPI initiativesOversee infection prevention and control practicesMonitor medication management and treatment practicesAssist with nursing recruitment, onboarding, and retentionDevelop and mentor nurses and nursing supervisorsProvide ongoing coaching, education, and performance feedbackPromote accountability and professional standardsMonitor staffing levels and work with leadership to address staffing needsOversee nursing schedules and assignmentsAddress resident and family concerns promptly and professionallyPromote excellent communication between nursing and other departmentsMaintain a positive, respectful, and team-oriented nursing cultureCollaborate with the Administrator and facility leadership on strategic initiativesParticipate in leadership meetings and interdisciplinary meetingsServe as the primary nursing leader and clinical resource for the facilityQualificationsCurrent RN license in good standingPrevious Director of Nursing, ADON, or senior nursing leadership experienceSkilled nursing, long-term care, or post-acute experience strongly preferredStrong knowledge of clinical practices and SNF regulationsExperience with state and federal surveys preferredStrong understanding of quality improvement and regulatory complianceExcellent leadership and communication skillsStrong clinical assessment and critical-thinking abilitiesAbility to recruit, develop, motivate, and retain nursing staffStrong organizational and time-management skillsAbility to manage
