Pub Manager

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking a Pub Manager to oversee operations at The Pub, a long‑standing campus venue that hosts live events, music, and social gatherings for the UAF community. Located in the center of campus, The Pub serves students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a welcoming and community‑focused environment. The Pub Manager is responsible for daily operations, customer service, staff supervision, and maintaining responsible food and alcohol service standards. Duties Include Manage day‑to‑day pub operations, including scheduling, staffing, and vendor relations. Supervise, mentor, and build a team of student employees to assist with live music events, trivia nights, and other social programming. Ensure compliance with state alcohol laws and university policy. Monitor inventory and maintain supply chain for beverages and merchandise. Cultivate a welcoming, engaging, and safe pub atmosphere for all patrons. Ideal Candidate Thrive in hospitality with calm confidence. Have experience in food & beverage or event venue management. Possess excellent communication and leadership skills. Be organized, proactive, and passionate about community engagement. Comfortable working evenings and occasional weekends. Bonus: Music booking experience or local scene knowledge. Can make independent decisions requiring significant discretion. Knowledge of fiscal management, budgeting, forecasting, and revenue generation. Ability to interpret and articulate changes to alcohol licensing and related regulations. Experience in program and event development, goal setting, marketing, and promotion. Alcohol and food serving experience. Understanding of concert promotion, working with agents and talent. Ability to create and lead positive customer service practices and training. Experience applying student development theory and student affairs best practices. Three years of relevant experience in business functions, service industry, or student affairs. Previous experience with event planning, marketing, contract negotiations, supervision, training, budget management, and resale best practices. Minimum Qualifications Three years of college coursework and three years of progressively responsible experience related to the program specialty, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must obtain and maintain an alcohol‑serving permit (TAPS) and ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification. Must have a valid Alaska driver’s license and a clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria. Comfortable working evenings and occasional weekends. Position Details This full‑time, term‑funded, 11‑month exempt staff position offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
