Salary: $440k to $725k.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Gastroenterologist is responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals with disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, and biliary system. This physician evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and manages a wide range of digestive diseases using evidence-based medicine and advanced endoscopic procedures. The Gastroenterologist collaborates with primary care providers, surgeons, hospitalists, nursing staff, and other specialists to deliver coordinated, high-quality care across both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role supports Snoqualmie Valley Health's mission by promoting wellness, improving access to specialty care, and delivering exceptional clinical outcomes while fostering strong relationships with patients and the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic disorders.

Perform consultations in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Maintain complete, timely, and accurate medical records in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Educate patients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, preventative care, and long-term disease management.

Collaborate effectively with referring providers to ensure continuity of care.

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and other procedures consistent with training and privileges.

Interpret laboratory studies, pathology, imaging, and diagnostic testing to develop evidence-based treatment plans.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and patient safety activities.

Maintain current knowledge of advances in gastroenterology through continuing medical education and professional development.

Adhere to evidence-based clinical guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Participate in hospital call coverage as assigned.

Support development and expansion of gastroenterology services to improve access within the community.

Participate in implementation of new technologies, procedures, and clinical best practices.

Contribute to process improvement initiatives that enhance patient experience, efficiency, and clinical outcomes.

Utilize electronic health records and digital tools to optimize patient care and communication.

Support organizational initiatives that improve population health and preventive screening programs.

Deepen Connections: We build strong relationships with our patients, their families, and partners in the communities we serve.

Partner with multidisciplinary teams to provide coordinated care across the continuum.

Build collaborative relationships with primary care providers, surgeons, emergency physicians, hospitalists, radiologists, oncologists, and other specialists.

Participate in community education programs promoting digestive health and colorectal cancer screening.

Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.

Foster an inclusive, respectful environment that supports patients, families, and colleagues.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.

Licensure & Certification:

Current Washington State physician license or ability to obtain prior to employment.

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology.

Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship.

Current DEA registration.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.

Experience

Experience in outpatient and inpatient gastroenterology practice preferred.

Experience performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

Experience working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams preferred.

Critical Access Hospital experience is desirable but not required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Comprehensive knowledge of gastrointestinal diseases, liver disease, pancreatic disorders, and digestive health.

Expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.

Strong clinical judgment and diagnostic reasoning.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to educate patients with varying levels of health literacy.

Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Commitment to evidence-based medicine and continuous quality improvement.

Proficiency with electronic health records.

Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, and ancillary staff.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand for prolonged periods while performing procedures.

Manual dexterity sufficient to perform endoscopic procedures.

Ability to lift, push, or move equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.

Visual acuity necessary to perform procedures and interpret diagnostic studies.

Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works in outpatient clinics, endoscopy suites, and hospital settings.

May provide inpatient consultations and participate in call coverage.

Exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and bodily fluids requiring adherence to standard precautions.

Frequent interaction with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Requires flexibility to meet patient care needs, including occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays based on call responsibilities.

Benefit Eligibility Requirements - Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.

Employee Dependents - Your legal spouse or domestic partner; dependent children until age 26.
