Tenancy Peer Support Specialist – Part‑time, Charlotte, NC, $18–21 per hour (based on experience). About the Position The Tenancy Peer Support Specialist assists residents in understanding lease agreements, resolving tenancy issues, obtaining vital documents, and promoting independent living skills. The specialist builds trust through lived experience, provides emotional support, facilitates peer‑led wellness groups, and collaborates with case managers, clinicians, and housing staff. Responsibilities Help residents understand lease agreements and housing rules. Support peers in resolving tenancy issues, including landlord disputes, rent arrears, or housing inspections. Assist peers in obtaining vital documents (birth certificates, ID, social security cards) and link to credit repair or expungement resources. Promote independent living skills such as budgeting, cleaning, and home maintenance. Help identify resources to cover expenses like security deposits, moving costs, and adaptive aids. Maintain regular face‑to‑face contact to ensure living environments are safe and residents are thriving. Use lived experience to build trust and provide reciprocal, supportive relationships. Provide emotional support and encouragement to residents facing mental health or substance use challenges. Facilitate or co–facilitate peer‑led wellness groups and provide coverage to the PRN Hub when feasible. Support peers in developing personalized wellness and crisis plans. Advocate for residents’ rights within housing and mental health systems. Encourage self‑advocacy and goal setting. Encourage community inclusion and connections. Educate residents on tenant rights, mental health resources, and community supports. Work collaboratively with case managers, clinicians, housing staff, and community partners. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for holistic care planning. Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely documentation of services provided. Engage in ongoing training in trauma‑informed care, harm reduction, housing first, and peer support ethics. Assist in accessing financial entitlements (SSI/SSDI, Medicaid, food stamps, VA benefits, payee services). Perform other duties assigned by management. Qualifications & Experience Current North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist or eligibility to obtain certification. Belief in the recovery potential of all people and commitment to peer‑support philosophy. Openness to guidance, training, and mentoring to grow skills. Leadership demonstrated by modeling PRN mission, values, and guidance. Reliability, dependability, teamwork, personal determination, and honesty. Professional demeanor, ethical conduct, and approachability. Effective interaction with the public, providers, and stakeholders. Committed to personal recovery and wellness with a personal history of recovery and lived experience. Time management and task completion skills. Computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations). Excellent oral and written communication; active reflection; non‑judgmental listening; conflict resolution.
