Supply Chain Specialist

Nulixir, a nano-biotechnology start-up, is a VC-backed business-to-business (B2B) company that develops, manufactures, and licenses intellectual property (IP) for smart nanocarriers, called nanovesicles, which optimize the performance of functional ingredients in food & beverage products. Founded in 2019, the company brought together a team of CPG leaders, cancer researchers, US attorneys, and nutritionists to overcome long-standing challenges in the Food and Beverage Industry. The firm’s founder has extensive experience in the development of nanocarriers for cancer therapeutics. In the past-year, Nulixir sales have grown ~8x with strong interest from small, mid-size and many large CPG companies to partner with Nulixir and incorporate the technology in their products. Nulixir boasts an impressive board of senior executives from companies like Pepsi, Danone, McKinsey & Company, Paine Schwartz Partners, etc. The company currently has 30+ employees with a stellar executive team who come from food B2B companies such as ADM, Givaudan, Kerry, and ex-MBB consultants. About the Role Nulixir is seeking a hands-on Supply Chain Operations & Quality Specialist to support the day-to-day execution of supply chain activities at our Austin manufacturing facility. This role will serve as the onsite counterpart to our Supply Chain Manager , helping translate production and supply plans into disciplined execution across receiving, inventory management, warehouse operations, production readiness, material reconciliation and outbound shipments. This is a highly hands-on position. The successful candidate will spend significant time on the warehouse and production floor physically verifying materials, inventory, production readiness and finished-goods shipments, while also developing and improving the processes, SOPs and documentation that support these activities. The role will also support quality activities specifically related to raw materials, packaging, warehousing and supply chain , including material traceability, expiration management, damaged or nonconforming materials, supplier-quality issues and GMP-compliant warehouse procedures. A separate Quality Manager will retain ownership of the broader Quality Management System. Key Responsibilities Inbound Receiving & Raw Materials Oversee onsite receiving of ingredients, packaging materials and other production-critical supplies. Physically verify incoming materials, including quantities, lot information, condition and applicable documentation. Ensure receiving records, COAs and other required documentation are accurately completed and maintained. Coordinate large inbound deliveries based on warehouse capacity, production schedules and outbound activity. Ensure materials are appropriately identified, statused and stored in designated warehouse locations. Identify damaged, incorrect or nonconforming materials and coordinate resolution with the Supply Chain Manager, Quality Manager and suppliers. Support raw-material intake activities, including documentation review, retain samples and coordination of required identity testing. Inventory & Material Control Maintain accurate physical inventory and material-location records for ingredients, packaging, WIP and finished goods. Lead monthly inventory counts and conduct routine cycle counts as required. Ensure receipts, transfers, production consumption, returns, adjustments and shipments are accurately reflected in applicable inventory systems. Maintain lot-level traceability and accurate rack/shelf-level material locations. Investigate physical-to-system inventory discrepancies and drive corrective actions. Manage expiration and at-risk inventory, including established 60-day/30-day expiration reviews. Maintain appropriate controls and physical segregation for Quarantined, Released, Hold, Rejected and expired materials. Support FIFO/FEFO inventory practices where applicable. Production & Packaging Readiness Conduct onsite pre-production readiness checks to confirm required ingredients, packaging components and labels are physically available, correctly identified, released and available in sufficient quantities before production. Translate production schedules into daily onsite material and packaging requirements. Maintain applicable build plans, packaging-planning tools and finished-goods trackers. Coordinate staging of ingredients and packaging for upcoming production. Ensure the correct packaging components, labels and build plans are being used during production. Provide day-to-day onsite direction to warehouse and packaging personnel based on production, inbound and outbound priorities. Troubleshoot material, packaging and inventory issues that arise during production. Following production, reconcile materials issued, consumed, returned and scrapped; investigate significant discrepancies and ensure unused materials are properly returned and recorded. Coordinate preparation and staging of finished goods for customer pickups and shipments. Physically verify finished-goods SKU, lot, quantity and final pallet counts against customer orders and shipment plans. Confirm Quality release before finished goods are loaded for shipment. Ensure the correct pallets and quantities are loaded onto the correct trucks. Prepare and maintain bills of lading, shipping checklists, packing slips and applicable finished-goods shipment records. Maintain required shipment documentation and photographic records. Coordinate customer pickup and shipment execution as required. Maintain lot-level traceability between finished goods and customer shipments. Ensure finished-goods inventory is accurately updated following shipment. This physical verification is particularly important given the current limitations of managing shipment accuracy remotely. Supply Chain Quality & Process Improvement Develop, revise and implement GMP-compliant SOPs, work instructions, checklists and records related to receiving, warehousing, inventory control, material movement and shipping. Establish effective processes for raw-material intake and documentation management. Support creation and maintenance of raw-material and packaging specifications in coordination with the Quality Manager. Support management of damaged or nonconforming materials, including documentation, photographs, segregation, supplier communication and resolution. Support supply-chain-related deviations, investigations, CAPAs and change controls in coordination with Quality. Train warehouse and packaging personnel on applicable supply-chain procedures and conduct routine floor checks to verify adherence. Support mock recalls, traceability exercises and customer or regulatory audits involving receiving, inventory, warehousing and supply-chain records. Identify recurring operational issues and implement practical improvements to inventory accuracy, traceability, warehouse organization, material flow and shipment accuracy. Sample & Operational Support Coordinate shipment of laboratory, client and routine production samples. Prepare applicable sample labels and shipping documentation. Ensure cold-chain and time-sensitive samples are appropriately packed and shipped. Coordinate urgent or international shipments when required. Ensure samples are shipped within applicable carrier deadlines and maintain appropriate shipment records. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Food Science, Quality or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in supply chain operations, inventory management, warehouse operations, manufacturing or a related field. Experience working in a manufacturing environment with physical inventory, production schedules and lot-controlled materials. Strong understanding of receiving, warehousing, inventory management and material-flow processes. Experience developing or implementing SOPs, work instructions and structured operational processes. Experience with ERP/WMS or inventory-management systems. Strong Microsoft Excel, analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Quality, Production and Warehouse teams. Willingness to work primarily onsite and spend significant time on the warehouse and production floor. Preferred Qualifications Experience in food, beverage, dietary supplement, pharmaceutical or another FDA-regulated manufacturing environment. Familiarity with cGMP, FDA, FSMA and HACCP requirements. Experience with raw-material documentation, COAs, specifications, lot traceability and expiration/FEFO management. Experience supporting supplier-quality issues, nonconforming materials, deviations or CAPAs. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is hands-on, highly organized, detail-oriented and systems-minded . The right candidate should be equally comfortable physically verifying an incoming material, investigating an inventory discrepancy, making sure tomorrow's production has the correct ingredients and packaging, confirming the right pallets are loaded for a customer, and improving the underlying process or SOP so the same issue does not happen again.
