The Mig Welder sets up and performs production welding using GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), or SMAW (Stick Welding) to fabricate steel chassis components. This role focuses primarily on flat butt welds and vertical up welds, working from procedures, layouts, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, and verbal instructions to produce high‑quality welds in various positions. The welder works in the weld-out area, preparing chassis for subsequent sandblasting, wiring, and plumbing, while ensuring equipment remains in safe and reliable operating condition.
Responsibilities
Perform welding operations using GMAW (Mig), FCAW (Flux Core), and SMAW (Stick) processes on steel components according to established procedures and work instructions.
Produce welds ranging from simple tacks to complex welds in multiple positions, with a focus on flat butt welds and vertical up welds.
Work in pairs to fabricate and weld chassis assemblies in the weld-out area prior to sandblasting and further assembly operations.
Set up work using fixtures, guides, and layouts to repair, modify, or fabricate parts and equipment products according to specifications.
Interpret and follow job order specifications, blueprints, diagrams, and written or verbal instructions to complete welding tasks accurately.
Use and operate related tools and equipment, including forklifts, hoists, slings, portable and bench grinders, cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, tape measures, and Air Arc equipment.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on welding and related equipment by following manufacturers’ instructions and completing required daily check sheets.
Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, take appropriate steps to resolve issues, and request repairs when needed to minimize downtime.
Handle and move materials safely, including lifting items up to 70 pounds as required for welding and fabrication tasks.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with workplace safety procedures and guidelines.
Collaborate with team members, including welding partners and other production staff, to meet quality standards and production schedules.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 6 months welding experience or completion of a recent welding program from a vocational or industrial trades school.
Hands-on experience with Mig welding (GMAW) on steel components in a production or training environment.
Ability to read and work from blueprints and job order specifications to complete welds accurately.
Basic fabrication skills, including layout and use of fixtures and guides to assemble or repair parts.
Capability to safely lift and handle materials weighing up to 70 pounds.
Familiarity with using grinders (portable and bench), cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, and tape measures.
Ability to follow written procedures, work instructions, and verbal directions consistently.

Reliability to work assigned first shift hours and any required weekday overtime.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Completion of vocational school, industrial trades training, weld classes, or a welding technology program.
AWS welding certification or progress toward certification.
Knowledge of blueprint and weld symbols, even though it is not strictly required.
Experience using forklifts, hoists, and slings for material handling in a shop or industrial environment.
Exposure to fabrication work, including working with chassis or similar large steel assemblies.
Why Work Here?
Join a production environment that values hands-on craftsmanship, teamwork, and continuous skill development. You will work a consistent first-shift schedule, with opportunities for overtime during the week, allowing you to build both experience and earnings. The organization supports welders who come from vocational and technical programs, providing a setting where you can apply your training, grow your welding abilities, and gain exposure to a variety of tools and fabrication processes. You will be part of a team-focused culture that emphasizes safety, quality work, and dependable equipment.
Work Environment
This is a first-shift role with standard hours of 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with weekday overtime extending the day to approximately 3:30 p.m. as needed. Work takes place in a welding and fabrication shop, specifically in the weld-out area where chassis are completed before sandblasting and further assembly. The environment involves regular use of welding equipment (GMAW, FCAW, SMAW), forklifts, hoists, slings, portable and bench grinders, cutting torches, drills, punches, tape measures, and Air Arc equipment.
