Job Summary: The largest independent, non-profit biomedical research organization in the United States, headquartered on the Torrey Pines Mesa in La Jolla, California. The institute has achieved global recognition for its groundbreaking discoveries in immunology, chemistry, molecular biology, and drug development. Seeking an experienced Licensing & Contracts professional to support technology transfer, licensing transactions, and strategic research partnerships within a fast-paced scientific research environment. This role combines hands-on contract administration with higher-level deal negotiation and partnership management responsibilities. The ideal candidate will serve as a bridge between research teams, legal counsel, and commercial partners to help move scientific innovations from the lab into real-world applications through licensing, collaboration agreements, and strategic transactions.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of agreements including:
- License Agreements
- Sponsored Research Agreements
- Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs)
- Confidentiality/NDA Agreements
- Collaboration and Participation Agreements
- Support technology commercialization initiatives and strategic partnerships with biotech, pharmaceutical, and research organizations.
- Assist in structuring and negotiating licensing terms, financial provisions, milestones, and intellectual property rights.
- Manage active agreements and ensure compliance with contractual obligations, reporting requirements, and milestones.
- Collaborate with legal, patent counsel, investigators, and external partners throughout the deal lifecycle.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Business, Legal Studies, or related field required.
- Advanced degree (JD, MBA, PhD) preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in licensing, contracts administration, technology transfer, legal/contracts review, or business development within biotech, pharma, healthcare, research, or academic environments.
- Experience negotiating licensing agreements, sponsored research contracts, and related legal documents preferred.
