Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join the Medical Oncology Clinic team at the Calaway Young Cancer Center, part of Valley View, located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This role is integral to providing high-quality, compassionate care to oncology patients within an outpatient clinic setting.

The Medical Oncology Clinic RN will focus on comprehensive patient assessment, education, symptom management, and care coordination. This position is distinct from an Infusion RN role, emphasizing direct patient interaction, triage, and supportive care within the clinic environment rather than primary chemotherapy infusion administration.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with oncologists and the multidisciplinary care team to ensure seamless patient journeys, contributing to a supportive and healing atmosphere for individuals undergoing cancer treatment.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical, psychological, and social needs, within the medical oncology clinic.
• Provide extensive patient and family education regarding cancer diagnoses, treatment plans, potential side effects, symptom management strategies, and supportive care resources.
• Triage patient calls and walk-ins, assessing urgency and coordinating appropriate interventions or appointments.
• Administer medications (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular) as prescribed, excluding primary intravenous chemotherapy infusions.
• Monitor and manage patient symptoms and treatment-related toxicities, implementing interventions as needed and reporting changes to the medical team.
• Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
• Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of all patient encounters, assessments, interventions, and communications in the electronic health record.
• Adhere to all oncology nursing standards, clinic policies, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of recent, dedicated experience in a medical oncology clinic setting.

• Active Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license or a compact state RN license in good standing.
