Job Summary

The Battelle Government Security department is seeking a Security Specialist II to support the corporate Government Security Office. This dual-hatted position will serve as both a Security Specialist and provide administrative support for Government Security. The role supports classified program security operations, classified material control, security clearance administration, secure space administration, records management, and general administrative coordination. The Security Specialist II may assist the Director of Government Security or Government Security staff with specific duties, make independent decisions within assigned responsibilities, and interface with program staff, managers, client security personnel, and cleared industry partners to support effective security management and day-to-day Government Security operations.

Responsibilities

• Manage the security aspects of assigned classified programs, including coordination with program managers to establish secure room access requirements, intrusion detection system core hours, and access rosters.
• Develop and maintain standard procedures unique to each program space and conduct security briefings for staff.
• Maintain accountability for classified items stored on site and support the controlled flow of classified material in and out of the location.
• Interpret security regulations and provide security expertise related to classified material safeguarding and handling, classification markings, receipt and accountability, database entries, packaging for mailing or hand carry, and classified destruction.
• Manage safeguarding requirements for the storage, transmission, and destruction of classified materials in accordance with applicable government regulations and client requirements.
• Conduct security observations, support self-inspections, and assist with preparations for client or government security inspections.
• Make periodic combination changes for classified program safes in accordance with client and regulatory requirements, and maintain required combination records.
• Maintain required security records in accordance with applicable government regulations and internal procedures.
• Support classified contract and subcontract security requirements by reviewing contractual documents such as statements of work, DD Form 254s, classification guides, and related contract materials to ensure consistent application of security requirements.
• Track contract completion activities and coordinate disposition of classified materials.
• Issue subcontract DD Form 254s, as assigned, to flow down applicable security requirements to subcontractors.
• Manage security clearance requirements for staff members, consultants, and key management personnel, including fingerprinting, background investigation packets, release forms, clearance terminations, security briefings, and debriefings.
• Maintain and track foreign travel requirements for cleared personnel and ensure applicable internal and government databases are accurately updated.
• Coordinate classified meetings and provide clearance information for classified visits and certifications to government and cleared industry facilities.
• Serve as a security help desk point of contact for cleared staff and program managers, responding to questions and requests that require working knowledge of security procedures and sound problem solving.
• Proactively contributes to management initiatives and continuous improvement efforts within the security function.
• Work independently and collaboratively within a team environment while maintaining strong customer service and effective working relationships.

Key Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Current government security clearance is required; current DoD Secret clearance required, with TS/SCI eligibility preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Security Management or a related field and two years of security experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
• Knowledge of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual and other applicable client security regulations, including DCIDs, ICDs, or similar guidance.
• Knowledge of client security processes and proficiency with security databases and applications used at the work location, such as DISS, SIMS Security Management software, eQIP, client-specific databases, Lenel DMP Systems.
• Ability to make independent decisions within assigned responsibilities and apply sound judgment to routine and moderately complex security matters.
• Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with client and industry site security personnel.
• Intermediate level of experience across multiple security disciplines, including classified program management, classified material control, and clearance management.
• Experience with Windows computer operating systems.
• Ability to travel to attend meetings and training, generally less than five percent of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

• Security Fundamentals Professional Certification or Industrial Security Professional Certification.
• Applicable Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency or similar security training courses.
• Experience with managing personnel management, classified program areas, classified visits, and client inspection preparation.

Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $66,500 - $94,800 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
