About This Role About Summit Line Construction Summit Line Construction is a full-service electrical utility contractor operating across the Western United States. The company delivers transmission line construction, overhead and underground distribution, substation construction and commissioning, and renewable energy infrastructure for investor-owned utilities, cooperatives, and independent power producers. As a Quanta Services company, Summit Line combines the resources and standards of a large enterprise with a field-focused culture built around doing the work right. Projects range from single-circuit distribution rebuilds to multi-hundred-mile EHV transmission corridors. Position Summary: High-voltage transmission and distribution projects don't run on optimism — they run on accurate schedules, realistic resource loading, and someone who knows how to hold a baseline when the field throws curveballs. The Senior Scheduler leads planning and scheduling for assigned complex utility construction projects under the direction of the Project Controls Manager, working directly with project management, field operations, and clients to build, maintain, and analyze project schedules from pre-construction through closeout. This is a hands-on role that demands deep familiarity with how utility work actually gets built, not just how it gets planned on paper. Key Responsibilities What You'll Do Schedule Development & Maintenance Develop and maintain Level 3 and Level 4 CPM schedules for transmission, distribution, substation, and renewable energy projects using Primavera P6 Build project schedules from the ground up in pre-construction, incorporating procurement lead times, permitting milestones, right-of-way constraints, crew mobilization windows, and utility owner outage requirements Establish and maintain the schedule baseline in coordination with the project manager and owner, documenting all agreed-upon scope, logic, and constraints Perform schedule updates on a defined reporting cycle, incorporating actual progress from field reports, daily logs, and foreman input Develop look-ahead schedules (2-week, 4-week, and 8-week) to support field superintendents and crew planning Schedule Analysis & Reporting Perform critical path analysis, float consumption monitoring, and schedule variance analysis to identify risks before they become delays Prepare monthly schedule narrative reports for internal project controls review and for submission to owners and engineers of record Conduct time impact analyses (TIAs) for owner-directed changes, differing site conditions, weather events, and other schedule-affecting occurrences Support delay claims and REA preparation by developing fragnet logic and contemporaneous schedule analysis documentation Maintain as-built schedule records throughout the project lifecycle to support project closeout and any post-project dispute resolution Develop schedule recovery plans when a project falls behind, modeling resequencing, crew additions, and compression options along with their cost and risk implications Integration with Project Controls Integrate schedule data with cost control systems to support earned value management (EVM) reporting, including CPI and SPI trending Collaborate with the estimating department during the bid phase to validate schedule assumptions embedded in proposals and unit-price bids Support project managers in resource loading and crew allocation modeling, identifying labor, equipment, and material constraints that affect the schedule Participate in owner progress meetings, presenting schedule status and responding to schedule-related questions with accuracy and confidence Coordinate with procurement to track material delivery dates for major equipment — transformers, poles, conductor, switchgear — and flag procurement-driven float erosion Represent Summit Line in schedule negotiations with owners and engineers of record, defending schedule positions, time extension requests, and agreed recovery approaches Standards, Mentorship & Process Improvement Serve as a senior scheduling technical resource within Project Controls, applying and supporting enforcement of Summit Line CPM Technical Standards, standard WBS structures, procedures, and QA/QC requirements established by the Project Controls Manager Mentor Junior and Project Schedulers, providing technical guidance on Primavera P6, CPM methodology, logic sequencing, schedule analysis, and reporting discipline Identify and implement improvements to scheduling workflows, templates, and tools in coordination with the Project Controls Manager Ensure all schedules comply with Summit Line Project Controls procedures, CPM Technical Standards & Requirements, owner contract requirements, and applicable industry standards, including DCMA 14-point schedule health checks where required Perform QA/QC review of schedules produced across the project controls team prior to owner submittal, verifying logic integrity, progress accuracy, and compliance with contract schedule specifications Required Qualifications Minimum 6 years of scheduling experience in electrical utility construction, heavy civil, or power delivery infrastructure — construction industry experience required; scheduling for design or consulting firms alone will not satisfy this requirement Demonstrated experience scheduling transmission line, substation, or distribution construction projects Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 EPPM in a cloud-hosted environment; ability to build a project from scratch, establish baselines, apply approved constraints in accordance with Summit Line CPM Technical Standards and contractual requirements, and generate custom reports without reliance on templates or IT support Working knowledge of critical path methodology (CPM), resource loading, schedule compression techniques (crashing and fast-tracking), and earned value fundamentals Experience preparing and supporting time impact analyses and delay claims in a contractor role Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, one-lines, plan-and-profile sheets, and project specifications sufficient to validate schedule logic Strong written communication skills; capable of producing schedule narratives that are clear, defensible, and ready for owner submittal without heavy revision Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for schedule data manipulation and reporting Preferred Qualifications PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) or Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification through AACE International Experience working within a shared enterprise project structure (EPS) in P6 EPPM, including multi-project resource pools, global calendars, standardized activity coding, and controlled baseline and layout administration Familiarity with NERC/FERC interconnection project milestones and utility owner scheduling requirements for transmission projects Experience supporting FIDIC, FAR, or utility-owner contract environments with defined schedule submittal and review requirements Background in utility construction field operations — prior experience as a crew foreman, field engineer, or project engineer in a construction role is a meaningful differentiator Experience with schedule risk analysis tools such as Oracle Risk Analysis (Pertmaster) or Safran Risk Familiarity with Procore, B2W, or similar construction management platforms as they relate to schedule integration What You'll Get What We Offer Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with company match Paid vacation and company holidays Life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage Access to the broader Quanta Services benefits platform and career development resources Work Environment This is an office-based role headquartered in Heber City, Utah, with hybrid flexibility available for the right candidate. Travel requirements can reach 100% during active project phases — site visits, owner meetings, project kickoffs, and field coordination are part of the job. Candidates should be prepared to work in active construction environments including transmission right-of-way corridors, substation yards, and yard-storage and staging areas. The pace is consistent with the demands of live utility construction: deadlines are real, clients are sophisticated, and the margin for schedule error is low.
